Oh what a girl can do with a pair of the right shoes! LOL I love this super cute and simple little slipper stamp by Imaginisce available at Happy Creating on Etsy for only $1.75 (plus get 10% off your entire order if you use the coupon code CRAFTYPAWS at check out). When I first saw it, I immediately thought of Dorothy’s ruby red slippers from The Wizard of Oz and Cinderella’s glass slippers.
For this mixed media card, which I made for my friend Carol (YT: Scrapping Carol), I paired it with a quote from Disney’s Cinderella: “Have courage and be kind…. Where there is kindness there is goodness, and where there is goodness, there is magic.” Â This quote has particular meaning for me right now, as I see how certain very special people have reacted to my brother’s kidney failure disease. Â There have been some incredible kindnesses and magic has most definitely followed.
For this card, I stamped the shoe on a post it note (to create a mask), stamped it on my card stock with the printed quote, and then masked that shoe image before stamping it again so that it would look like a pair of sparkly heels. I then colored them up with Copic B000, B00 and B32.  To create the look of magical stars all around the background, I also stamped a trio of stars from the WPlus9 “Unforgettable” stamp set (which surprisingly matched the stars on the shoes perfectly!).
To add a soft gradient ombre blue color to the background, I used blending tools with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Tumbled Glass and Salty Ocean. I kept the area around the shoes almost completely white to create a magical glowing appearance. Next, I got out some Liquitex Professional Glass Beads and pushed the texture gel through a Tim Holtz Doily stencil in various spots to add what I hoped would be sparkle and shine once dry. I do really like the effect, but next time I will be sure to seal the printed sentiment with clear gesso first or make sure that I don’t get the texture paste near the text, as it causes the ink to bleed. To fix the most critical areas I reprinted and inked some of the words and popped them up on foam adhesive to add a little dimension while hiding the flaws. Lastly, to give the shoes a glassy shine, I added Glossy Accents.
The following is a start to finish process video of this mixed media card:
