“Love Is In the Air” Shaker Card | CraftyPaws

I love so many of the free coloring pages that Elizabeth O. Dulemba, who is an children’s book illustrator, regularly offers on her blog. This “Sledding Bear!” has such glee that I couldn’t resist coloring him up.  I decided that the movement in the image would be a perfect background for some shaker cards.

I started the background using the snowflakes from the “tinsel& twig” stamp set from the girls’ paperie with Tsukineko VersaMark Clear Ink and white embossing powder. The embossed snowflakes create a resist. I applied Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Peacock Feathers and Tsukineko Artnic baby blue ink in a circular motion using finger daubers, and the embossed snowflakes were left crisp and white (if you have residual ink, you can dab that off with a tissue or a baby wipe).  I then colored up the digi with the following Copic colors, using a dotting technique to mimic boucle wool for the wooly parts:
Bear: W1 and W3
Scarf and hat trim: BG 10 and BG45
Hat and sled: RV52 and RV 55
I used Mod Podge to glue on the fussy cut digi onto the snowy background to create a seamless backing for the shaker pieces to move on.

I made the top part of the shaker with a piece of upcycled plastic packaging.  I first dry embossed a piece of white card stock using a Cuttlebug snowflake embossing folder. Then I used an X-ACTO Knife to cut out an opening for the plastic packaging to fit through. I filled the container area with a fun mix of white and silver sequins, tiny pearls, snowflake sequins, and sequin hearts.  I wanted to add the little hearts to signify all the “love in the air” that the bear is zooming through. LOL  I used Glossy Accents to adhere the plastic packaging to the embossed white top piece as well as the base background.

For finishing touches I added a little organza ribbon with white polka dots to the bottom of the embossed top panel, and tied it in a pretty bow. I hot glued a little flat back pearl heart on the center of the bow to highlight the love theme of the card, which I was afraid might get lost in this fun, interactive card.  This card is joining the batch of cards I am creating for children at St. Jude’s to use for their Valentines.

The following is a video share of this card:
