I am a huge fan of Doctor Who so I decided to make this happy new year card for a crafting friend, Erin’s (YT: Queeny-E) brother, James, who is a fellow fan. James is diabetic, legally blind, is on thrice-weekly dialysis for kidney failure, and recently broke his leg! I hope this card (and the ornament I am working on for him) will help brighten his holidays a bit.
I used a stamp from the now defunct SP & Company (sorry there is no name on the packaging), and altered the man a bit by drawing in top hat like the way the Matt Smith version of Doctor Who might wear. I colored everything up with the following Copic markers:
Skin: E50, 51, 53 and R30
Hair: E55, 57, and 59
Tuxedo shirt, suit and top hat: C1, 5, 7, 9, and 10
Gold streamers and champagne: Y21 and 35
Green part of champagne bottle: G46 and 29
I also added Glossy Accents for shine in the police call box light and windows, along the band of the top hat, the satin stripe of the pants, the patent leather dress shoes, the gold streamers, the glass parts of the champagne bottle, and the champagne bursting from the bottle (this also helped strengthen the tiny areas that I fussy cut out so delicately).
For the Doctor Who police call box, otherwise known as the Tardis (Time And Relative Dimension In Space), which is the Doctor’s time travel space ship, I found a simple image online and printed it out twice on my printer. Then I fussy cut around both images, and for the second image, I cut out all the inlaid panels with an X-acto knife. Edging all the cut areas with a black brush tip pen is key to give a nice finished look. I then popped up the second print out above the first so that the panels would look inlaid.
I put everything on a tag that I cut out by hand using some pale grey patterned paper and black card stock. I punched a hole at the top of the tag and gathered up several pieces of black and blue satin ribbons from my ribbons scraps bag along with some black and silver eyelash trim yarn to make a fun and festive tassle. I had a gorgeous bit of wider silver satin ribbon that I had been hoarding for a while but I thought it would perfectly cinch the top of the tassle with this handmade bow. I think that bow really tied the whole thing together, as it also kind of references the way the Matt Smith version of the Doctor always says, “Bow ties are cool.” LOL
It’s hard to see in the pictures, but I also die cut out some snowy ground with white vellum and the Lawn Fawn Stitched Hillside Borders die set to give the Doctor and the Tardis something to stand on. The card base is cut out of more black card stock and the snowy patterned paper is from a very old stack of very thin snowflake patterned paper from my stash (I thought the blues and purple snowflake pattern would be good for a masculine card).
