I made this Halloween card depicting a teen who is feels like she is too old to dress up and go trick or treating, but really wants to go out and get free candy. LOL She put on a cat hat, but couldn’t be bothered to put on an actual cat costume.
I used up scraps from Graphic 45’s “An Eerie Tale” and “Steampunk Spells” paper collections that I had left over from my Steampunk Halloween Box (tutorial with video HERE). I adhered the papers askew so that you could see and appreciate the Halloween images on the back background paper while still getting the main part of the written spell on the front patterned paper. I inked the edges of both patterned papers with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Black Soot for a nice finished look that blended into the black cardstock card base.
For the focal image, I wanted to keep the whole card monochromatic so I colored up The Greeting Farm Creeper Crew Thursday with the following Copic colors:
Hair: E55, E57, E59 and E89
Skin, T-Shirt, and Cat Hat Ears: E50, E51, E53 and R30 (for just a hint of blush)
Eyes: E53 and E57
3/4 Sleeve T-shirt, Jeans, Shoes and Cat Hat: W3, W5, W7 and W9
Belt and Cat Hat Button Eyes: E84, E87, E89 and Y28
I also decided to free-hand draw a speech bubble/sign with E51, E53 and Y000 to match the other colors in the image while bringing in more of a yellow undertone to tie in with the background patterned papers. Then I used a Copic Multi-liner Pen in 0.1 pt to write out, “Which way to the candy” for the sentiment. I fussy cut both the image and the speech bubble/sign, inked the edges with a Momento Tuxedo Black Marker (to hide the white cut edge of the paper) and then popped them both up on double sided foam adhesive to add a little dimension.
