As many of you know, my dad had a heart attack about a month ago; we were all so worried and scared. This week, he is celebrating his 83rd birthday and we are all so grateful and thankful he is recovering so well. To celebrate, I wanted to make him a fun, tactile card with an interactive element.
I used a couple of images from The Greeting Farm Magical Kit stamp set, altering one of them to make her into a mermaid by doodling a little tail and paper piecing it in place of her skirt and legs.  I used the following Copic colors to bring the images to life: Skin: E000, E00, E21, E11 and R20; Red head: R30, R32, R35, R37 and Y00; Red head’s tail: Y00, Y15, Y19 and R37; Beads and starfish barrettes: Y00, YG03, and YT07 with a top coating from a Clear Star Gelly Roll pen for shimmer; Purple mermaid: Y00, V12, V15, V17, and V09.
For the watery background, I used 140 lb Strathmore watercolor paper, and water colored on swaths of blues and aquas using Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers in Light Blue (036), Turquoise Green (042), Cobalt Blue (031), Persian Green (033), and Persian Blue (032). I made undulating areas of each color, laying in more color in the narrow areas and less in the wider areas and then blending out the colors with a water brush.
To create the watery shaker element, I took a zip lock bag and filled it with tiny metallic confetti and clear gel hand sanitizer. I kind of freaked out when the color of some of the confetti discolored the gel, but in the end I thought it looked more realistic with a murky look. LOL For the card front, I die cut a large opening (but smaller than the zip lock bag) with one of the Diemond Dies Scalloped Nesting Scalloped Oval Die Set from a glittery gold card stock. To accent the scallops and repeat the blues from the watercolored background, I added dots with Tim Holtz Distress Stickles in Broken China. I taped on the watery shaker pocket behind the opening and then popped up the whole card front with double sided foam adhesive to create a little space for the shaker pocket and the shaker elements to be pushed around. I printed out the punny sentiment on my computer and popped it up on double sided foam adhesive too.
The following is a video tutorial for how to make this watery shaker card (plus a little Copic coloring too):
