I’m so excited to be participating in a YouTube hop with my crafty friends, Carolina (YT: Carolina’s Creations-Handmade), Yorlis (YT: Pretties by Yorlis Borja), and Rosa (YT: Rosa’s Creative Way). We are sharing how we made unicorn-themed embellishments, and we are also each giving away 2 prizes. Two winners will be randomly chosen at each hop stop: one will win a $40 gift certificate from an online craft store of the winner’s choice, and another will win the embellishments we made for this hop. To enter, participants: (1) must be subscribed to all four of our channels, and (2) leave a comment on each of our hop videos. Entrants must be 18 or older. This giveaway is open internationally. Deadline to hop along for prizes is August 25, 2018. This hop and giveaway is not sponsored by YouTube.
I rummaged through my stamp stash and pulled out all of my unicorn stamps. I had the Avery Elle Pegasus Duo, The Greeting Farm “Magical Friends,” The Greeting Farm “Magical Day,” C.C. Designs “Unicorn Dreams,” and C.C. Designs “Puppy Power” (yes, I know these last ones aren’t unicorns, but these are my current favorite stamps and you’ll see how I made this work!). I stamped and Copic colored the images with the following colors:
Rainbow mane and unicorn horns: R27, YR65, Y15, G09, B04, B66 and V06
Brown bodies: E40, E30, E31, E33, E35, E37
Gray bodies: W0, W1 and W3 OR N0, N1 and N3 with undercoat hints of B32 or B63 (for the Pegasus Duos)
Blush and ears: R30 and R20
Blue eyes on pups: B91 and B01
Hooves, noses, and paw pads: N7 with highlights added with a Signo Uniball White Gel Pen
Unicorn horns: B21, B32 and 0 with Clear Wink of Stella for shimmer
Pink mane: R52, R55 and RV66
Coral mane: R11, R22 and R14
Turquoise mane: B01, B04 and B06
Purple mane: B63, B66 and B69
Before stamping out the puppies, I wiped away a bit of the image at the top of each head so that I could make space to draw in unicorn horns. Then I doodled in some unicorn horns with Copic Multiliner Pens in 0.1 pt and 0.03 pt tips. (these are Copic friendly so there is no fear of bleeding or smearing when coloring). Then I fussy cut out all the images, inked the edges with a Momento Tuxedo Black Marker, and set them aside to work on the tags.
For the tag bases, I used Inkssentials Heavyweight #5 Craft Tags; stencils from Melissa Frances (Hearts Missing), Visible Image (Stars and Stripes), and My Favorite Things (Snowfall); and modeling pastes to create some textured backgrounds from Viva Decor Modellier-Creme in Champagne, Liquitex Professional Modeling Paste, and Martha Stewart Sparkle Texture Effect. Once dry, I had some fun with a variety of sprays from my stash to add watercolor, a distressed shabby chic look, and shimmer: Recollections Simply Pastel in Blue Shimmer and Purple Shimmer; Heidi Swapp Color Shine in Gold, Mustard, Sheer, and Primrose; and Tattered Angels in Blue Icing, Tin Can, Penny, and Viva Pink.
Once all the pastes and sprays were dry (helped along with blasts from my heat tool), I decided which images would color coordinate with each tag base and then die cut some backgrounds to add some visual separation between the tag bases and the images using a die from the Spellbinders Calligraphy Flourish Tiles Die Set from the Ooh La La Collection.
Then it was a matter of digging through my trims remnants to see what combinations of laces, pearl strands, satin ribbons, rosette trims, organza ribbons, and popcorn yarns would enhance each image-tag combination. I had a blast hot gluing on embellishments in turquoise, pale pink, cream, cotton candy pink, magenta, and rainbow colors.
For finishing touches, I decided to use up some Bead Landing Words Craft Beads to add the following phrases or sentiments to each tag embellishment: “dream & believe,” “beauty,” “crazy in love,” “always believe,” and “happy dance.” I also decided that most of the tags could benefit from some floral touches so I added a bed of flowers to ground the pink-maned unicorn, a little path of aqua flowers for the standing Pegasus, a trio of peach roses for the coral-maned unicorn, and a cluster of pink flowers at the top of the puppy-cum-unicorn tag.
