The Owl Gorjuss Girl Shaker Card

I was so excited and honored when Justine Hovey asked me to do a collaboration with her on YT. She is so talented and creative! We decided to demo no line Copic coloring (a first for me!), and I chose to do mine on one of the latest release Gorjuss Girls called “The Owl.”

My mother asked me to make a graduation card for my niece, who is graduating high school next week, and I thought this little girl trying to fly using two large feathers was the perfect image. The inside sentiment ties the design of the project to the graduation theme nicely. I also decided to make this into a shaker card, because, well, who doesn’t like a shaker?! 😀 It’s one of my favorite techniques. LOL

I stamped the image with Tsukineko Memento Ink in Desert Sand, and then used the following Copic colors:
Hair: B00, C5, C7, and C9
Skin: E50, 51 and 53 with R30 blush
Feathers: B00, B01, B04, BG13 and BG18 with White Sakura Gelly Roll Pen dotting and Clear Wink of Stella for shine
Skirt of Dress: Boo, 01 and 04 with White Sakura Gelly Roll Pen highlights
Bodice of Dress and Boots: Boo, BG13 and BG18
Hearts: R32 with Ranger Tickled Pink Stickles over top for sparkle
Owl: E53, 55, 57 and 59
Striped Stockings: C1, 3 and 5

The biggest difference that I found with no line coloring and regular coloring is that this is a little less forgiving. It’s amazing how that thin stamped black line creates a buffer for coloring oopsies. Also, for parts of stamped images that you want showing up, you have to go back with a thin marker to redraw them in. I actually made this little girl’s eyes bigger when I drew them back in with a 0.03 point pen from a Copic Multiliner Fine Pigment Ink Pen Set. While I love Gorjuss Girls I do find that their eyes are a bit small for the head/body proportions.

The attached video includes the process of coloring and assembling the card, so rather than be repetitive I’ll just include the materials I used here: the 9th and 10th circles from the Diemond Dies Circle Nesting Die Set, the 7th largest Diemond Dies Scalloped Circle Nesting Die Set, the “Dream” die from the Little Yellow Bicycle Hope Dream Believe Scripted Die Set, Tsukineko VersaMark Ink, Recollections Sparkle Embossing Powder in Opaque Bling, Pebbles “Sunny Side Paper, Studio Calico Wood Veneer Birds (which I sprayed with Heidi Swapp Color Shine sprays in Mustard and Primrose before adding them as shaker pieces), Jillibean Soup Teal Bakers Twine, buttons and sequins from my stash, and Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Tumbled Glass, Broken China and Salty Ocean.

You are so talented. I’m just learning how to color It’s hard & I wish my hair would look as good as yours. Thanks for a new way to make the shaker portion of your card. I always wondered where everyone always found these perfect shakers. I was always looking everywhere to find a package of them,lol. Pleas keep sharing all your talents with us.
