“Thanksgiving Boost” Hinge Card with FREE Digi of the Week! | CraftyPaws

I had so much fun drawing up this digi, which I’ve named, “Thanksgiving Boost”.  I’ve had several requests to draw larger dog digis, and I thought a digi that included a large and a small dog for Thanksgiving (and beyond–you could cover the turkey with a dimensional cake sticker for year round use) could satisfy a lot of folks.

20141107_131044I also got to play with one of the newest Diemond Dies from their latest release–a dog bone mini album die–and made my first hinged card! Just the shape of this card makes it special, and I can’t wait to surprise a fellow dog loving crafty friend with it. 🙂 Remember, if you’re making a purchase at Diemond Dies, you can use the coupon code: thankskristina for an extra 10% off your entire purchase and free worldwide shipping on orders of $35 or more!

The video below will include a description of how I made my hinged card so I won’t repeat it here. Instead, I’ll lay out the details of the papers, materials, and Copic colors I used. I used of scrap pieces of striped papers for the backgrounds. The yellow, grey and white “wallpaper” is from a Recollections “Bright and Basic” card stock paper stack that is really thin (I would not recommend it, but when I bought it 2 years ago I didn’t know better).  The “floor board” paper is a scrap from the American Crafts “Night Fall” collection.  The pale blue stripe paper is so old I don’t remember the brand, and the base blue and kraft card stock is some loose paper by Bazzill. I inked the edges of the base papers with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Antique Photo in order to finish off the edges, since the smaller bone was hand fussy cut and not altogether even. 🙂  I punched the edges of the kraft card stock with my Martha Stewart “Eyelet Lace” punch around the page set, and then cut it in two to frame and add visual weight to the top and bottom of the main scene.

For the image itself, I fussy cut the image out and to make it fit better on the bone, I separated the dogs from the counter and overlaid them a bit.  I added foam adhesive to the backs of the dogs so they were brought more to the forefront.  I used the following Copic markers: Cabinet: C5, 7 and 9; Marble counter top: C1, 3, and 5; Pedestal platter: C1; Turkey (which has a reddish undertone): E33 and 37; Chihuahua (with a khaki/green undertone): E53 and 55 with a little YR000 for the ears and underbelly; Rottweiler (black areas): W5, 7, and 9; Rottweiler (brown areas with a milk chocolate tone): E23 and 25; Rottweiler eyes (deep brown): E29 and 79 and a little R81 for the tongue.  I also added Glossy Accents to the eyes and noses of the pups, the counter top and the bones of the turkey as well as clear Wink of Stella on the platter for some shine and shimmer. Lastly I added some wooden dots by Teresa Collins to add a little extra dimension and interest to the card.

The following is a video share of the card with a tutorial for making a hinge card:
