Steampunk Valentine Layout – MelsCraftBoutique GDTP | CraftyPaws

Mel, the owner of MelsCraftBoutique, asked me to create another Steampunk Valentine project so…how excited was I to be able to use my brand new (just 2 days in my home) Sweet Pea Stamps’ “Steampunk Doll!”

20150115_192607I stamped the image out on Strathmore Watercolor paper a few times and took my time experimenting and playing with some Distress Markers and my Pentel water brush. I wanted an artistic painterly look for this image, and I took color cues and tried to mimic the mood of Salvador Dali’s famous painting, “The Persistence of Memory,” (that’s the one with the drippy clocks in a desert).

Along with a black Copic Multiliner (o.3), a Sakura white Gelly Roll pen, and clear Wink of Stella, the following are the Distress Marker colors I used:
Hair: Black Soot, Tea Dye
Skin and blush: Tattered Rose with Spun Sugar
Puff sleeve shirt: Black Soot and Picket Fence with Tea Dye or Broken China
Bodice: Black Soot and Walnut Stain
Corset, headband, and trims: Tea Dye and Antique Photo
Red hair bow: Fired Brick
Wings: Tumbled Glass, Broken China and Fired Brick–all watered down
Jewels: Broken China
Background buildings: Milled Lavendar
Desert sky color: Antique Linen

The beautiful trims I used from MelsCraftBoutique are the following:
Black Venice Trim (vertical piece behind image)
Black Venice Floral Trim (pieces I cut apart to frame the corners of the LO)
Black Satin Rolled Roses
Vintage Beaded Tassel Appliques
Midnight Black Rhinestone Buttons (small, there are large ones too)
Embroidered Heart Trim in Black

If you make a purchase at Mel’s shop, use the code “CraftyPaws10” for 10% off any order of $15 or more and if your order is $40 or more you get free U.S. shipping as well!

To hammer home the idea of Valentines, I also added 3 hearts die cut using a La-La Land Craft Hearts Die. I used Glossy Accents on the inner and outer edge of each heart and adhered them with foam adhesive so they would stand up to the all the shine and dimension of the other embellishments on the layout.

The following is a video share of this layout, which also includes a coloring process:
