My hubby and I are huge Star Wars fans so I knew when I finally picked up the Neat & Tangled “A Long Time Ago” stamp set, I was going to make him a special Star Wars themed birthday card this year. He is also in the process of leaving his current job and starting several new ventures on his own so I thought an expansive, adventure-filled reference like Star Wars would be encouraging him as he spreads his wings and flies into the unknown.
I created a galaxy background using Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Picked Raspberry, Peacock Feathers, Tumbled Glass and Black Soot, darkening up the black at the end with Versafine Black Ink and splattering on some watered down Copic Opaque White Ink. I also misted on some plain water to give a mottled deep space dimensional feeling too. I love this galaxy creating technique — because images of galaxies are unique, there are never any mistakes!
I heat embossed the sentiments from the A Long Time Ago stamp set with Super Fine Detail White Ranger Embossing Powder. Then I doodled in some shimmery gold dash lines emanating from the main sentiment so that it would look like the we’re traveling toward the sentiment in hyperdrive (LOL) like in the original Star Wars movie.
For the Chewbacca, Ewok and Yoda (please check out my prior blog post or YT video for all the stamp altering (a bear from the My Favorite Things “Beary Special Birthday” was altered into the Ewok), doodling and Copic coloring details). I also doodled a bit of a planet ground for the characters to stand on with the following Copic colors: C1, 2, 4, 6, and a 0.5 pt Copic Multi-liner pen. Lastly I printed out on vellum the sentiments, “Happy birthday! May the FORTIES be with you.” and “When 900 years old you reach, look as good you will not, Hmmm?” with a free Star Wars font you can find HERE. I hand cut the speech bubbles around them so that it would look like the first sentiment was being said in chorus by Chewy and the Ewok and the second sentiment was clearly being said by Yoda.
The following is a start-to-finish process video sharing how I created this card :

Very cute! We are so blessed for your participation in our last Challenge and would love for you to join us again in our current Challenge at Word Art Wednesday. Leaving you with this Scripture inspiration from Colossians 2:6-7 which tells us, “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” Have a blessed week.
