I’ve never Copic colored an entire background before, but have been wanting to try it for a while now.  As I sat on my deck reading over work papers, I noticed sweet puffy clouds floating by overhead, and I knew just what I wanted to make when I got inside.
I thought I would create a simple scene card celebrating summer with one of the cute pups from the Some Odd Girl “Preppy Pups” stamp set. I stamped the pup with MFT Black Licorice Hybrid Ink and used the following Copic colors to color up the scene:
Pug: N1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7 (face) with E51, 53, 21 and Y26 (body)
Grass with shadow: YG01, 25 and 45
Sky with soft grey/silver lined clouds: B000, 00 and 01 with N0 (coated with clear Wink of Stella for shimmer)
I used the Diemond Dies Cross-Stitched Square Nesting Die Set to cut out the image and then matted it with some shimmery soft grey paper.  Then I used thin Dollar Tree fun foam underneath to create just a bit of dimension (I wanted to keep it flat for mailing). To add a little more interest, I drew another little puffy cloud with Copics and offset it on top of some more fun foam in the upper right corner.
I mounted all of this onto a card base made from some summer green/peridot colored card stock. Lastly I added a vellum banner that said “It’s [just] a dog’s life!” after cutting out the “just” so that it would fit without too much overhang on the card. That piece of vellum has been rolling around in my scrap box for about a year, and I’m so happy I finally found a good use for it!

Yea – I am celebrating with you cuz that turned out to be the perfect use for your vellum! Love your coloring of the dog – nice shading, blending and especially the whisker spots on his muzzle! Nicely done! Thank you so much for sharing your project and creativity at 613 Ave C!

Gorgeous card,I love how you’ve coloured your dog! I recently bought some ‘cheapie’ alcohol pens and am practicing with them, but have so much to learn! TFS.x
Awww thanks so much Ann! I started with inexpensive Chromatix markers (package of 30 for $20 at Tuesday Morning, and I used them for about 6 months to practice a lot before moving to Copics (and I eased into those very slowly–scouring eBay for Copic lot sales which was really cost effective ~$2.75/marker for a large lot). I hope you are enjoying the coloring process. That’s really the point, right?! 🙂 TFStopping by! Big hugs, Kristina
