I made this fathers day card for my father-in-law using some packaging scraps from my guest design team kit from FlairbyMe.com, some less-than-optimal Seth Cole watercolor paper, and some super chunky glitter paper that is difficult to use but gives fantastic sparkle.
The card base is constructed from two sheets of scalloped rectangular card stock that was the backing on some of the embellishments from my GDT kit. I scored the back sheet and used wet glue to adhere the two pieces together. I inked the edges of the top sheet with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Faded Jeans to coordinate with the card front.
The card front was cut from 140 lb Seth Cole water color paper using the WPlus9 Sunshine Layers scalloped rectangle die. I had sadly discovered that this paper was not great for watercoloring because it absorbed inks and paint too quickly, making blending difficult. However, I was thrilled with the results with shimmer sprays. I used Recollections’ blue shimmer and Heidi Swapp mustard and Heidi Swapp Navy sprays and the color mixing and the shimmer were spectacular.
For the sentiment, I used super chunky gold glitter paper that has been in my stash for years. I absolutely love the sparkle from this paper, but the glitter is so chunky as to make die cutting (or even plain scissor cutting) almost impossible without leaving bare spots where the glitter falls off. After using the Lawn Fawn Scripty Thanks Word Die, I decided to use champagne gold Stickles to fill in the spots and it came out looking very luxe!
The cute little boy and girl, that I colored up to represent me and my hubby, are from the Mama Elephant “In My Heart” stamp set. I used a Copic multi-liner pen to doodle in some jeans and belt to alter the little boy’s outfit from looking like pajamas to looking like regular casual clothes. I colored up the images with the following Copic markers: Skin: E00, E21, E11, and R20; Boy’s hair: E55, 57 and 59; Boy’s shirt: YG25 and 17; Boy’s jeans: B91, 95 and 97; Boy’s belt and shoes and girl’s shoes: C7 and 9; Girl’s hair: C6, C7, C9 and B00; Girl’s dress: Y21, 15, and 17.
Lastly, to keep the shimmer and sparkle going, I used the Winnie & Walter True Multifaceted Heart Cutaways die on gold foil paper. The inside of the card is simply decorated with a little hand cut banner with “heartfelt thanks” printed from my computer using the free Magnolia Sky scripty font that I picked up HERE.
