This is the third of the three summertime ocean themed cards crafted with the Creative Expressions Whale of a Time Stamp Set. The prior two are HERE and HERE.
For this last card, I wanted to give the sense of an ocean teeming with animal life. I blended Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Inks in Broken China, Salty Ocean and Blueprint Sketch to create a deep ocean on 3/4ths of the card front and stamped in the octopus and the schools of fish directly onto the ink blended area so that I could avoid fussy cutting all those thin arms and tiny fish. For a more watery look, I used the water splattering technique to let the water droplets leach out the pigment for a splotchy look.
To color up the octopus and the schools of fish, I used Fine and Ultra Fine Sharpie permanent markers (I was afraid to use my expensive Copics). They may not have blended as smoothly as my Copics, but they did blend some, and I provided great opaque coverage using the following colors:
Octopus: lavender and purple with Signo White Gel Pen for the whites of the eyes and Black Sakura Glaze Marker for the pupils
Schools of fish: yellow, orange, and red
Turtle: yellow, orange, light green, aqua green and green
I stamped the dolphin, some splash droplets, and the turtle on separate card stock. I colored the dolphin and water droplets with the following Copics: C4, C5, and C7 with C0 inside the mouth and B02 for the eye. To give a hint of ocean blue to the part of the tail that was below the ocean horizon line, I coated the dolphin’s tail with B01. I also popped both the dolphin and the turtle up on double sided foam adhesive to add a little dimension to the ocean scene. The “Oceans of Love” sentiment, which I think can work for kids and and adults alike, is from the stamp set. To add a bit of shine, I traced the stamped sentiment with a Black Sakura Glaze Marker. I also drew in tiny dots for eyes of the school of fish with a Black Uniball Pen.
