My First Bottle Cap Charms | CraftyPaws

I have seen elegant, beautiful, cutsie (kawaii), and modern poppy bottle cap charms, but I have always been intimidated by the metal hole punching and the flattening of bottle cap charms. Then a lovely crafty friend, Nat (YT: Panchito3948) posted a challenge to create them on YouTube. Ok, now I was motivated. I think I watched a good dozen tutorials.

20150302_111947I learned the “sandwich” that would work to flatten the bottle caps on my Big Shot: base platform with all the tabs off; base cutting plate, bottle caps, and then top plate. It was so easy! I don’t know why I was so apprehensive. They magically flatten and are so pretty–like little metal flowers!

The holes were a different story. I didn’t have a Dremel or a metal hole punch like a Crop-O-Dile or a Tim Holtz Drill Punch (now I do–yes, I went out and bought one yesterday–LOL). I ended up carefully using a hammer and nail. The holes are not as neat as I would like, but they work. šŸ™‚

All you need are some Bottle Caps, beads/charms, head pins, some wire, wire cutter tool, and some rounded and flat needle nose pliers. I had all those things from my jewelry making. Ā You can pick any image (stamped, drawn, from designer paper), punched out into 1″ circles. To protect it, folks use Clear Epoxy Stickers for Bottle Caps, Glossy Accents, or Dimensional Magic Mod Podge.

There are no limits to the fun you can have in any style! I did these in a style I hoped would appeal to Nat.

The following is a video share of these bottle cap charms:
