This is the second altered journal I made for my friend, Justine’s (YT: Justine Stone) current Gift From the Heart Challenge (see the prior post HERE for the first). About once a quarter, she hosts a challenge asking crafty friends to alter journals that are donated to hospice care facilities or childhood cancer treatment centers. Whatever else is going on in my life, when I think of what folks at these places are going through, I do whatever it takes to participate in each one of Justine’s challenges. It always makes me feel good to use my love of crafting to hopefully brighten someone’s day.
For this masculine altered journal, I broke into my crafty hoard vault and pulled out the Graphic 45 “Good Ol’ Sport” collection. I used half of my stash covering the front and backs and inside front and back covers. I made a little pocket in the front as well as a bookmark. I used Americana Decoupage matte glue sealer finish to adhere everything, and I inked the edges of all the papers with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Black Soot.
I also used the cut apart page of what looks like vintage magazine covers of sports from all around the world (love the cricket and the rugby ones especially), popping some up on double sided foam adhesive to add a little extra interest and dimension to the front cover. While there are other colors in these little cut-a-parts, I love the cohesive look of the black, cream and red color combos that dominate these particular papers.
This is a more simple altered notebook project, but I think that it is probably more functional for a man or boy too. 🙂 This altered journal is being entered into the following challenges:
