It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas–LOL | CraftyPaws

A super sweet and talented crafty friend, Shonda (YT: SLIMcards), is hosting her very first challenge, and I knew I wanted to support her, as she supports so many of us on YT, participating in so many of our challenges. Ā She asked that we make two different traditional Christmas ornaments, so I made this one with a Tim Holtz Alterations die called “Layered Wings.”

20151012_170457Do you ever feel like you MUST have a certain crafty item, spend way too many hours hunting for it atĀ the best price, finally get it, and then never get around to using it? Ā That’s how this die was for me–until today. Ā YAY! I finally got to use this die and I found I still LOVE it! šŸ˜€

I cut the wing layers out from heavy weight chipboard, painted them with white acrylic paint, and then used Ranger Archival Ink in Sepia to ink the edges and stamp out some beautiful font from a Heidi Swapp background stamp.

20151012_170516Then I got out my VersaMark ink and some Ranger Ultra Thick Embossing Powder (UTEE) and Diamond Dust iridescent glitter (GASP–yes, I braved glitter for my dear Shonda). I embossed and glittered each wing layer and and then assembled everything with hot glue (for quick adhesion) and E6000 (for security).

To make the back pretty as well, I die cut out the largest wing layer from some scrap patterned paper and glued that onto the back side. Ā I used more of the same paper to attach everything together in the center with a circular scrap and then covered up the center paper attached areas and the lace that I hot glued on to make the hanging loop with a gorgeous floral applique.

While this ornament has a bit of a vintage feel with the sepia ink used, I think it is also clean and simple enough for me to mass produce (probably without the glitter–lol). I plan to make a bunch for the seniors I visit with my dog, Bandito, for pet therapy. šŸ™‚

This ornament is being entered into the following challenges:
