I have been wanting to use the adorable puppy, dog house, and weather vein from the Paper Sweeties “Sweeties Pets” stamp set for a while, and I thought I could tweak a couple of little things to stretch the versatility of these stamps into a holiday card.
I made the little scene by stamping out the pup, then masking off a corner of the dog house and stamping that so that it would look like it was behind the pup. I also eliminated the top row of siding on the house to simplify the image to make room for the holiday lights, which I doodled in with a Copic multi-liner pen. Then using a MISTI stamp tool, I aligned the weather vein to sit on top of the house. I added a snowflake topper from the Lawn Fawn “Ready, Set, Snow” stamp set, and I also stamped out the little silhouette of Santa being pulled in his sleigh by his reindeer from the same set to complete the sky scene. To give the sense of a puppy whose life is bountiful, I stamped the toy ball and the dog bowl, which I filled with bones by masking around the back of the bowl and the bottoms of the bones. All these accessories are from the Sweeties Pets stamp set too. Finally, to give the puppy a totally holiday look, I doodled and fussy cut out a holiday hat for her. I glued most of the holiday hat onto her head, but popped up the fuzzy pom pom with a pop dot for added fun and dimension.
I colored up the whole scene in just a few colors (one of my favorite holiday color combinations–red, teal/mint and pink) to keep a cohesive look:
Sky: B000, B00, BG10, BG32
Bones: C00, 1 and 2
Inside of dog house: C6 and 7
Reds: R35, 37 and 39
Pinks of holiday lights, pup, hat and ball: RV21, 23 and 25
Puppy: C00, C1, C2, C6, R20, E35, E37, white Sakura Gelly Roll pen for furry details and black Sakura Glaze pen for shiny nose
I also added Glossy Accents to the holiday lights and bones for shine, and I coated the whole ground with Studio G iridescent glitter glue for a snowy sparkle. Lastly, I splattered some watered down Copic Opaque White over the whole scene to give the look of lightly falling snow.
To frame out the scene, I used the larger of the frames from the Pretty Pink Posh Scallop Frames Die Set on some red card stock, that I deepened with R39 to match the darker red of the roof and the decorative hearts on the dog house and dog bowl. I popped up the whole card front with some fun foam and adhered it to a white card base. Inside, I made a little decorative pocket to slide in a Christmas check by using the Martha Steward Aspen Snowflake Punch Around the Page border punch on one side and scoring and folding back the other 3 sides of the red card stock scrap. I heat embossed with White Super Fine Detail Ranger Embossing Powder “Merry Christmas” from the Prima “Merry Nice” stamp set on the pocket to finish off the inside (sorry, there’s no picture of this, but if you watch the video below, you’ll see it all):
