Get Well Card with Clearly Besotted | CraftyPaws

I absolutely fell in love with this adorable stamp set called “Playful Pooches” from Clearly Besotted, and my dear friend Dorothy (YT: Dorothy Jewell) actually surprised me by buying it for me! Isn’t that the sweetest?!

20160714_202005I wanted to make a get well card with the sweet little pup who looked like he was sleeping (or perhaps resting/recovering). I used the sentiment that said “sorry you’re feeling ruff” and curved it on my MISTI tool to give it a little bit of a curved nest feeling under the pup.

The coloring of this tiny image was super easy with the following Copic colors:
Pup: E51, 53, 55 with R20 for flushed cheeks
Ground for pup to lie on: N1 and YG03

I used the Diemond Dies Cross Stitched Circles Die Set to die cut this cutie puppy image to add a little Prim detail, and then to mat it, I used the Diemond Dies Die-Normous Stack-Ems Circle Nesting Die Set and a scrap of straw colored patterned paper from my scrap box (this is from a completely different line of dog and cat themed paper than the background paper I describe below but it seemed to match perfectly).  NOTE: My readers can get 10% off and free worldwide shipping on all orders of $35 or more at Diemond Dies by using the coupon code “thankskristina” at checkout.

20160714_202131-1To make the background for the card front, I used two sheets of patterned paper from the old DCWV Pets Mat Stack that I have been hoarding and kind of divided the card into two sections.  The bottom has several rows of puppy-themed patterns and the top has a fun polka dot pattern. I eliminated some rows of the bottom patterned paper that seemed to detract from the color cohesiveness.  Also, for some unknown reason, the row of fire hydrants was cut off in the patterned paper so that a couple of them were not complete so I covered one with the image and fussy cut an extra fire hydrant and pieced it together over the top of the other cut off hydrant. I love how all of this came together and created a lively puppy background.

For the inside of the card I used an old Stampin’ Up! stamp set called “Sincere Salutations” for a simple “Get Well soon.” But horror of horrors(!) I moved my hand when stamping this out and got a smear by the “G”. I didn’t want to cover it up with a separately stamped label because this bit of the patterned paper (the same as for the matting used on the front) had a super cute paw print. So to “fix” it, I doodled some dots around some of the letters and cleaned up some of the double stamping with a Copic multi-liner pen. Actually I like the extra detailed results. For a finishing touch, I used a little paw print stamp and some Momento Desert Sand Ink to add a bit more puppy love to the card.
