Elegant Welcome Baby Card | CraftyPaws

I wanted to try a new-to-me inlaid die cutting technique as well as practice some layered stamping so I decided to combine the two techniques into this elegant and joyful baby birth day card for my friend Kim (YT: Kimbo Kreations) who is expecting a new grand baby.

20160721_141509I used the Just Rite “Romantic Wild Roses” stamp set and the following ink colors that I had in my stash (if I keep up with layered stamping I think I’ll need to invest in more colored inks) to create a large and small cluster of layered stamped flowers:
Tsukineko Stencil Palette in Baby Blue, Seafoam, and Petal Pink
Ranger Adirondack Pigment Inks in Sail Boat Blue, Stream, and Butterscotch
Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Picked Raspberry
To add a little more softness to the image, I also doodled some shimmery dots with my favorite Sakura Clear Star Gelly Roll Pen.

Then I braced myself as I used the Lawn Fawn Joy Scripty Word Die (also available HERE in the UK) to cut right into the card front.  I made sure I saved all the little pieces around the letters because I was going to need them all.  I next die cut the word out 5 more times from plain black card stock. Then I cut those black die cut joys at varying heights before I stacked them together to create a 3D word that had a graduated thickness (see left photo below).  Lastly I positioned all the die cuts into position on the card front and glued everything together, topping the whole inlaid stack with the first “joy” that was die cut from the floral card front (see right photo below).

Graduated Inlaid Die Cuts

I used a thin piece of fun foam to mount the card front onto a black card base to add a little dimension and to tie into the black that now peeked out from behind the “joy.” To complete the sentiment, I used the “is on the way” stamp from the Lawn Fawn “Hello Baby” stamp set. I stamped it with Momento Luxe Tuxedo Black Ink off set to the lower right of the inlaid “joy,” and used clear embossing powder to heat emboss the sentiment. To finish off the card, I used Glossy Accents to adhere a handful of medium and small iridescent clear pink sequins around the card.

Unfortunately after ear shattering boom (a blown transponder) we were without power for most of today so I wasn’t able to record my process. However, I have made a quick share video describing what I did to create this card.
