EASY Layered Stamping | CraftyPaws

One of the wonderful things I learned at the Scrapbook Expo was how to make layered stamping easy and foolproof! I had learned this at the make and take in the Bee Creative booth using the Hero Arts “Layering Baby Penguin” stamp and die set, but I have yet to purchase that set (it’s at the top of my wish list now).  However, I had the Hero Arts “Color Layering Goldfish” stamp and had picked up the accompanying die set at the Expo so I knew I wanted to give it a try with my mom and her friends (who are all really enjoying my once a month craft sessions for seniors).

To create a bunch of cards, the best way to do repeat layered stamping is to create a kind of template using the accompanying dies. I luckily have 2 stamp tools so I set up each one with a template in which I die cut each fish 3 times.

Then I positioned the stamps in order from left to right with the stamps to perfectly fit the negative die cut spaces. That way, it’s foolproof. The crafter need only insert a die cut fish into the first space, stamp it with a light ink, move the die cut fish to the second space and stamp it with a medium or dark ink, and then move it to the third space to stamp it with the brown or black ink for the eye and gill detail. Even for first time stampers, these all came out wonderfully!

I used Hero Arts Fiesta Yellow, Tangerine and Fiesta Yellow (or Pink & Main Street Light (yellow), Construction (orange) and Stop Sign (red) inks) along with a Stampin’ Up! Chocolate Chip ink pads for all the layered stamping.

Then to create some backgrounds, I blended on some Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Inks in Broken China, Salty Ocean, Mermaid Lagoon and/or Blueprint Sketch either over an entire card front or selectively around a part of a card front. Then to create a mottled, watery look for the ink blended background, I splattered on some water from a spray bottle. I also die cut some grounds from kraft card stock with my Lawn Fawn Stitched Hillside Die Set and inked the edges with Time Holtz Distress Oxide Ink in Vintage Photo.

Add a few kelp stamped and die cut pieces using Hero Arts Lemon Yellow, Fiesta Teal, and Emerald Green Inks, and voila an underwater scene is born! To add to the sense of depth, I interwove some of the goldfish behind some of the kelp and I popped most of the goldfish up on double sided foam adhesive tape. On a few of the cards, I also added some 4mm and 6mm Pretty Pink Posh Droplets with Ranger Glossy Accents for some dimension and sparkle.
