Easy Dimensional Floral Card | CraftyPaws

I am very late to send a thank you card for the couple who loaned us their home in Honolulu during our vacation a couple weeks ago. But I figure better late than never, right?! XD

20160928_102122I had purchased the Heartfelt Creations Tropical Hibiscus stamp and die set and knew this would be perfect for the Hawaiian thank you card. Based on what I’d learned at the class I took from Heartfelt Creations at the Scrapbook Expo, I knew I could easily color, cut, and emboss (mold) these flowers easily and quickly for wow results.

First I stamped out the flowers in Ranger Watermelon Adirondack Pigment Ink and the leaves with the MFT Green Monster Pigment Ink. Then I used finger daubers to quickly color the flowers with Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Picked Raspberry, Squeezed Lemonade and Mustard Seed and the leaves with Mowed Lawn. Having the dies made cutting everything out super fast and easy too.

Then I spritzed some water on the backs of each of the flowers and used the rounded end of a Sakura Gelly Roll pen to mold the flat flower petals and stamen into rounded, dimensional flowers. Although hibiscus usually are single layer flowers, I thought these would look more lush with two layers so I cut the smaller stamen off of the smaller flowers and layered them on top of the larger flowers. To add some texture and interest, I glued pearl white Prills to the centers of the flowers and to the rounded ends of the stamen.

Then to add a little interest but still leave the primary focus on the flowers, I decided to get out my Avery Elle Dotted Dies set. I used the rectangle and one large fishtail banner and used them to cut down layering pieces of white card stock. I then took my time and threaded through pink embroidery floss. I love the homemade look that this little bit of stitching brings. I popped up each of these stitched layers with some thin fun foam to add a little stability and dimension to the card base to compliment the super dimensional flowers. Lastly, I inked up a scrap of white card stock with more Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Picked Raspberry and die cut the small “Thanks” word die from that to match the color of the flowers.

The following is a tutorial video sharing how to make these dimensional flowers:
