A fellow pet therapy volunteer lost his sweet Golden Retriever last week, and I wanted to make him a sympathy card in honor of his sweet girl.
I used an old doggy bone patterned paper scrap from the Daisy Hill 8.5″ x8.5″ “Top Dog” paper collection along with some other scraps from my scrap box. I Copic colored the Golden Retriever image with Y11, Y26, and YR24 and fussy cut it out three times. I stacked each pup on 3M double sided foam adhesive to create some depth, and inked the edges of the fussy cut image with a B point Faber-Castell PITT Artist Pen to cover the white edges of the paper.
To make the Golden into an angel pup, I used a small bird gold metal charm, cutting off the tail, the branch and the hanging loop and glued it into place between two of the doggy image layers with E6000. Lastly, I die cut a polka dot vellum heart with the fourth smallest of the Diemond Dies Nesting Heart Die Set, inking the edges with Delicata Golden Glitz pigment ink to help the heart stand out from the background patterned paper.
For the inside, I used a sentiment that reads, “Dogs leave pawprints on our hearts” from the Sparkle N Sprinkle “Scratchy” stamp set along with a paw print stamp that my friend Jill (YT: luvmy2pugs1) gifted to me a couple of years ago.

Not only is this a wonderful card to look at, but I think there is a real need for pet sympathy cards! Our friends also just lost their dog and it’s such a tender time for them. I thought it was genius of you to make a pet sympathy card and to make it so personalized for the recipient. I’m sure it did a lot to raise their spirits. Thank you for the inspirational idea and for sharing your work with us for this week’s Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge!
Thank you so much Andrea! Yes, our fur babies are members of so many of our families and finding sympathy cards is always difficult. I hope this card and the angel Golden will help raise my friend’s spirits a bit with the memories of his sweet dog and all the good work they did together. TFstopping by! Hugs, Kristina
