Dimensional Floral CAS Card | CraftyPaws

This is the second card I made with the Heartfelt Creations Tropical Hibiscus stamp and die set (you can see the prior one HERE). But this time, I thought I would do a little watercoloring spray and play for the background.

20160928_163947-1First I stamped out the flowers in Ranger Watermelon Adirondack Pigment Ink and the leaves with the MFT Green Monster Pigment Ink. Then I used finger daubers to quickly color the flowers with Tim Holtz Distress Inks in Picked Raspberry, Squeezed Lemonade and Mustard Seed and the leaves with Mowed Lawn. The dies made cutting everything out super fast.

Then I spritzed some water on the backs of each of the flowers and used the rounded end of a Sakura Gelly Roll pen to mold the flat flower petals and stamen into rounded, dimensional flowers. Although hibiscus usually are single layer flowers, I thought in crafting we can take artistic license so I went with a more lush two layered look. To add some texture, I glued pearl white Heartfelt Creations Prills to the centers of the flowers and to the ends of the stamen to mimic pollen.

Then for the card front, I used the rectangle from the Avery Elle Dotted Dies set with some plain white card stock. I threaded pink embroidery floss in and out of each hole. Then I decided to have some watercoloring fun and sprayed some water on the card front and smushed on some Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Picked Raspberry, spraying with more water to soften the speckling and dotting. I also sprinkled on some Deco Art Media Shimmer Mister to add some lovely shimmer (not sure if this is showing up in the pictures). I love the way this spraying adds interest and softness to the background without cluttring up the CAS look of the card. Lastly, I hand cut a little banner from a scrap of white card stock and layered on a “hello” word die cut from the Diemond Dies Word Dies #1 die set that I had inked up with more Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Picked Raspberry and topped with Glossy Accents for shine. I popped up the whole assembly with double sided foam adhesive onto an ombre white-to-pink card base from the Michael’s Hot Buy Dip Dyed cards and envelopes set, and I like that subtle color change along the edges of the card that seem to coordinate with the intensity of the splattered/sprayed background.
