I have a friend with a spring birthday who LOVES cats. I thought I would finally use the sweet kitties from the Penny Black “Tiny Treats” stamp set to do a little quick watercoloring with Tim Holtz Distress Markers to create this silly CAS card.
I stamped out the kitten balancing a cupcake on her head with Versafine Ink onto watercolor paper. Then I used the following springy Tim Holtz Distress Marker colors: Spun Sugar, Worn Lipstick, Picked Raspberry, Spiced Marmalade. The kitty is colored with Pumice Stone since my friend’s cats are all black.
This inexpensive Seth Cole watercolor paper absorbs moisture so quickly that it was hard to blend the colors, but the image was so small that I think it actually kind of worked in my favor because it prevented a lot of color bleeding. I also added Clear Wink of Stella for some added shimmer on the kitty’s shirt and on the cupcake (unfortunately that shimmer doesn’t really get reflected in the photos).
I simply then cut around the image to a small 2″ x 2″ square size and then popped the whole piece up on fun foam so that even going through international mail the image wouldn’t be squished (finger’s crossed). Because I wanted a super clean seamless look, I cut another piece of watercolor paper for the card front and then adhered that to a pink card stock base. I hand wrote with a black Uniball pen, “Life’s uncertain…” under the image to start the sentiment.
Then inside the pink card liner says, “especially at your age. Eat dessert first!” (LOL) I printed that out from my computer and then stamped in the lower left another cute kitty from the stamp set. This one is precariously balancing on a balloon. “Happy birthday” is actually on the lower part of this stamp, but because I wanted the image to be an accent rather than detract from the focal sentiment, I didn’t stamp those words and simply extended the balloon string with a 0.03 pt Copic Multi-liner Pen.
