Altered Journal | CraftyPaws

A lovely crafty friend (YT: Justine Stone) periodically hosts challenges for altered journals that she donates to an elder care facility that her mother stayed in before she passed. She said journals like these are great for the family members dealing with ailing family members. I think this is such a lovely way to remember her mother and to help other people going through difficult times that I always participate in her challenges.

This time I took a simple spiral notebook, painted the front cover with white gesso (I didn’t want the brown chipboard to show through the napkin image), and decoupaged with matte Mod Podge a beautiful peacock napkin image on the front. It was one of those long cocktail napkins so the length was perfect, but the sides were too short so I hot glued a dusty green Chinese braided trim all around the edges to frame the image.

To embellish the spiral portion, I used beautiful upcycled sari fabric ribbon, that I purchased at Candace Scarborough’s OnlyOneLifeCreations, to tie alternating teal and orchid bows through each spiral loop.

For added dimension and interest on the front cover, I added hand made paper flowers in different sizes and shapes that I thought color coordinated nicely with the colors in the napkin.

The following is a video share of this project:

This altered journal is being entered into the following challenges:
Crafts Galore Anything Goes Challenge
Simon Says Stamp Monday Don’t Cut, Just Paste Challenge

Thanks for stopping by! Have a blessed day. WOOF
