This Deer Trio Die from Diemond Dies is so versatile, and I’m so glad I finally got a chance to share a couple of fun ways to use it to make some masculine cards. First of all, the trio can be used all together to make a nature, baby, or family-themed project. However, you can also use just the stag and doe to make a card for a wedding or anniversary card too.
I die cut the first two cards (shown above) from wood veneer paper that I received from my friend Candace (YT: Candace Scarborough). She sells these adhesive backed wood grained veneer papers at her Zibbet store: OnlyOneLifeCreations. The light background on the first card is pine, the darkest stag is cherry, the mid tone doe and fawn is golden oak, and the soft background for the second card is weathered wood. Very little else needed to be done other than to die cut and inlay (or lay on top in the case of the second card) these beautiful deer with these gorgeous real wood veneer papers. I wanted the special quality of these wood veneer papers to shine so I kept the cards clean and simple (CAS), just inking around the edges and adding some patterned corrugated base layering to the second card for some interest.
For the third card, I decided to get out my inexpensive ($1.99 at Tuesday Morning) watercolors and just play. I cut down and moistened some 140 lb Strathmore watercolor paper, and laid down layer after layer of color, making sure to regularly change out my water so as to prevent muddying of the colors. I wanted to create an easy rainbow colored sunset background to inlay the die cut deers. I simply colored the deers black to make them silhouetted against the vibrant background.
On the inside I stamped out a simple “Happy Father’s Day” on all three cards (the second one is for my hubby since we don’t have any kids, except fur babies), and that was it! No further embellishing required. 😀

Fabulous cards! Great take on this weeks inspiration photo! Thanks so much for joining us this week at The Pink Elephant!
LOL I thought the dark deer silhouettes on the rainbow sunset sky was a fun take on the rainbow sprinkles on the dark chocolate frosted donut. 🙂 Thanks for a super fun challenge! Big hugs, Kristina
Wow, that wood veneer paper looks incredible. Have never used it myself, must see if I can get my hands on some. Beautiful dies too and such a wonderful CAS design. So very glad you shared this with us at ATSM this week!
Thanks so much Shona! I know Candace Scarborough’s shop (there is a link in the blog post) has the wood veneer paper and I think I have also seen it made by EK Tools. 🙂 Hope that helps you find them and give them a try. I love them! 😉 Hugs, Kristina
