Liquid Applique | CraftyPaws https://www.craftypaws.us "PAWS" and enjoy the journey! Tue, 29 Nov 2016 15:13:57 +0000 en-US hourly 1 Happy Howlidays https://www.craftypaws.us/happy-howlidays/ https://www.craftypaws.us/happy-howlidays/#comments Tue, 29 Nov 2016 13:58:47 +0000 http://www.craftypaws.us/?p=8782 I love stretching stamps. No, not literally stretching them out of shape (although sometimes I do that with sentiment stamps to make an arch or something like that- LOL). I like doodling to add details or mixing stamp sets to stretch the versatility of stamps. That’s what I did for this card inspired by the movie “I Want a Dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown,” using one of my favorite puppy stamp sets from Penny Black called, “Man’s Best Friend”.

20161128_214730-1I doodled on a string of holiday lights onto the dog house and I gave the pup a Santa hat from the Lawn Fawn “Baaah Humbug” stamp set (available HERE in the UK). Then, I added a little tag-banner and stamped “Happy Howlidays” from the Lawn Fawn stamp set of the same name and decorated it with a line of present bones (from Happy Howlidays) and a red bow (from Baaah Humbug). I think the little scene came out super cute, and I don’t think anyone that receives this card would imagine that I used a non-Christmas stamp as the main image. Success!

I stamped out the images with MFT Black Licorice Hybrid Ink (available HERE in the UK) and used the following Copic colors to color them up:
Dog shading: W0 and 1
Dog house (it’s easy to create a wood grain look by adding simple shaky line details), Santa hat, and bow: R35, 37 and 39
Dog house interior and roof: N5 and 7
Holiday lights and bows on dog bone presents: RV02, RV04, YG25, YG07, B01
Dog collar and grass: YG25, 07 and 09

20161128_214629

For the papers, I got to use up 3 scraps from my paper scrap box! I had a pale blue tiny polka dot that I die cut into a circle using the Diemond Dies circle nesting die set. I hand cut a tag-banner from a pale green slightly larger polka dot paper, and I used a larger thin paper with a blue and green paisley for the background. Lastly, to add some texture and interest, I added Liquid Applique that I heated with my heat tool to make the Santa hat white trim soft and fluffy, Glossy Accents to all the holiday lights, and a coating of black Glaze pen on the dogs eyes and nose.

Funny Card for Xander’s Card Shower https://www.craftypaws.us/funny-card-for-xanders-card-shower/ https://www.craftypaws.us/funny-card-for-xanders-card-shower/#comments Thu, 10 Dec 2015 21:32:58 +0000 http://www.craftypaws.us/?p=6717 Jennifer MacGuire is hosting a wonderful challenge asking folks to make cards to shower two children, who are battling cancer, with handmade crafty love. This card is for 10 year old Xander, who is a movie buff.

One of my favorite holiday movies is “A Christmas Story,” and this “Penguin Oops!” from Whimsy Stamps totally reminded me of the scene in the movie where Flick gets his tongue stuck on a frozen pole. So I thought I would make Xander a funny CAS card using this stamp.

20151210_145739I stamped the image directly onto my card base to make this a single layer card, and I colored up the image with the following Copic colors:
Penguins: C0, 1, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9 with R30 blush
Feet and beaks: Y35 and 38 with Glossy Accents to add some shine
Blue scarf and hat: B93, 95 and 97
Red and grey earmuffs and scarf: R22, R27 and W7 with white dots using a Gelly Roll pen
Stalactites and snowy ground: B000 with glitter glue for the stalactites and clear Wink of Stella for the ground
To add some dimension and interest, I also used Marvy Uchida Liquid Applique for the fuzzy parts of the hat and ear muffs

I die cut out “joy” using the Lawn Fawn scripty word die four times and glued the pieces together to create some dimension and interest even though I kept it all white to keep the focus on the image. I also rounded the corners of the card and the inside liner sheets, which were from the Lawn Fawn Fa La La collection from last year.

The following is a quick card share video:

Seasons Greetings Cards https://www.craftypaws.us/seasons-greetings-cards/ https://www.craftypaws.us/seasons-greetings-cards/#comments Sat, 27 Dec 2014 03:28:45 +0000 http://www.craftypaws.us/?p=4268 Ok, you know when you’ve really blown sending out Christmas cards when you have to send Happy New Years or Seasons Greetings cards. LOL

Picture 28I figured I was so late that I should just start with a stamp and papers that I have had in my stash for a while and never got around to using. I got to use a super cute freebie digi from Pure Innocence, called “Merry Kissmas” that I have had in my stash for about a year (unfortunately I couldn’t find the link to this freebie anymore) and some pretty green gingham patterned paper that I’ve had in my stash for over 10 years! I had fun using up some scrap patterned papers, bits of seam binding and twine, and lacy ribbons too.

20141226_222330I colored up the image 3 times with the following Copic markers: Skin: E000, 00, 11, 21 and R30 (blush); Red clothes: RV25 and 29; Pink clothes: RV52 and 55; Grey clothes: C3, 5, and 7; Green clothes: YG13 and 25; Snowman: BG10 and 0; Hair and snowman arms: E74; Snowman nose: Y38; and Black coal buttons: 100  To add a little interest I used a White Sakura Gelly Roll Pen to add dots to some of the clothes, Mini Glossy Accents to add shine to the carrot nose and little girl’s boots, and White Uchida Liquid Applique to puff up the faux fur on the hats.

Lastly, I used Tuxedo Black Momento Luxe ink to stamp out a simple “Season’s Greetings” from My Sentiments Exactly and used clear embossing powder to emboss the sentiment.  This last bit I rushed so the stamping is not as clear as it should be, but it will have to do. I just can’t be even later with these cards!

“Happy HOWLidays!” – Free Digi of the Week https://www.craftypaws.us/happy-howlidays-free-digi-of-the-week/ https://www.craftypaws.us/happy-howlidays-free-digi-of-the-week/#comments Fri, 21 Nov 2014 21:49:13 +0000 http://www.craftypaws.us/?p=3980 I wanted to draw a silly doggy Christmas digi in which a poodle (yes, this is supposed to represent my Biscuit) could be pretending to be a reindeer and a little fluffy dog (yes, this could be Bandito) could be sitting in a sled pretending to be SantiPAWS. LOL  This digi, called “Happy Howlidays” is one that may end up being our holiday card this year.

I think I may try some additional color combinations, but for this first card, I used more traditional, soft, almost vintage colors.  I paper pieced and shaded the sled from a Recollections Christmas paper stack called “Watercolors.”  I also added a small strip of that paper to the front bottom of the card, just to add some continuity.

The following, are the Copic colors used: Poodle/deer body: E31 and 33; Poodle/deer fur: E23, 25, and 29; Antlers: W1 and 3; Bell: Y35; Bow: R17; Harness: W9. I also used a Sakura White Gelly Roll Medium Point Pen to add highlights to the body, clear Wink of Stella to the bow and antler to add some shimmer; and Glossy Accents on the bell, eyes, nose and antlers to add some high shine.  For the brown parts of SantiPaws: E23 and 25; white parts of SantiPaws: W1 and 3; Hat and jacket: R14, 17 and 08; Sack of toys: C1 and 3; Shading on sled: W1 and 3; and black of buttons and nose: W9.  For the snow, I used C1 and 3 with a coating of clear Wink of Stella, which I also added to the hat and jacket. Lastly I added Uchida White Liquid Applique, which I heated with my heat gun for the faux fur parts of the hat and jacket. What fun that added!  It’s like heat embossing on steroids!

The following is a process video showing the coloring and paper piecing:

After all the coloring, I matted the image onto red card stock and then framed that with kraft card stock, which I punched out using a Martha Stewart eyelet lace punch around the page set. I put the whole thing on a white card stock base, and voila!

This card is being entered into the nice category of the Naughty or Nice Challenge Festive Furballs November Challenge and

Christmas Eve Chowder Cards https://www.craftypaws.us/christmas-eve-chowder-cards/ https://www.craftypaws.us/christmas-eve-chowder-cards/#comments Thu, 23 Oct 2014 20:44:07 +0000 http://www.craftypaws.us/?p=3773 I wanted to finally play with this stamp set from Jillibean Soup and the Unity Stamp Company that I picked up in an eBay auction a couple of months ago. These little penguins are so stinkin 20141023_113841cute.  But, yes, they are little. The largest ones are about 1.5″ tall and the smallest are just under 1″.  Assembled together they make adorable cards (as you can see), but singly, they could be great for little gift tags.

I decided to try one of my new favorite color combinations: red, teal, white, black and kraft (that’s in the Christmas tree trunks) and used the following Copic marker colors: Red: RV29 and R39; Teal: BG10, 13, and 45; White (well actually greys: C1, 3, 5, and 7; Black: Copic multiliner in 0.3; Kraft: E70 and 74.  Ok, there is also a teeny pit of Y38 for the beaks and feet of the penquins. 🙂  I also added some dot and hash details to the scarves on two of the penguins using a Sakura White Gelly Roll Medium Point Pen.
.

These cards were all about playing with some fun crafty goodies. I wanted to play with some white polka dot vellum paper because I thought it could help make a snowy scene by layering it with some hand cut snow banks. I tried using some glittery white embossing powder (I must say that I didn’t like the fuzziness created by the glitter–or maybe that’s from my heavy handed stamping with VersaMark Ink) to stamp the sentiment “Christmas Blessings” on top of the vellum.  I also tried Uchida Liquid Applique Marker in White for the puffy parts of the hats and scarves. Not everything came out perfectly, but that’s ok since these are handmade cards after all.

For added shimmer and sparkle. I added Glossy Accents on the beaks, feet, and eyes of the penguins. I also added faux stitch lines on all the snow banks using a clear star Gelly Roll pen.  Finally I twinkled up all the Christmas trees with both the clear star Gelly Roll pen and the metallic gold Gelly Roll pen.

The following is a process video of these cards:

Halloween Card and Christmas ATC with the Same Diemond Dies! https://www.craftypaws.us/halloween-card-and-christmas-atc-with-the-same-diemond-dies/ https://www.craftypaws.us/halloween-card-and-christmas-atc-with-the-same-diemond-dies/#comments Sun, 05 Oct 2014 20:01:31 +0000 http://www.craftypaws.us/?p=3640 20141005_153852-1When I recently received the latest Design Team Package from Diemond Dies with all of the new Halloween dies, I was so excited–like a kid on Christmas morning! LOL  There were so many great new dies and my mind started reeling with ideas for how I could use the dies differently. REMEMBER: Diemond Dies is having a 10% off everything sale through today, October 5, 2014 and you can also use my coupon code: thankskristina, for an extra 10% off plus free worldwide shipping on orders over $35!

These two projects, which I made with the “witches boots die set,” are so different. The Halloween card was made with basic Bazzill card stock in black, purple, white, and orange.  I used the small witches boot die to cut out little windows and backed the opening with a small scrap of paper on which I wound black and white bakers twine back and forth, adhering the twine to the scrap with wet glue. To make the top of the witch’s 20141005_153834dress, I just used black card stock and trimmed the edge, where it met the white card stock, with black gathered lace and black pearl trim.  For a little softness, I added a triple loop purple seam binding bow cinched with more bakers twine that is also tied in a little bow.

Inside I used the Diemond Dies Labels 1 Nesting Die framed with a scrap of orange card stock, the corners of which I punched with my Martha Stewart bats corner punch. The sentiment inside says, “Happy witches to you on Halloween” (I love a good pun) and is from a Hampton Arts clear stamp set.

The Christmas ATC was made with the same Diemond Dies “witches boots die set,” but using different papers gives it a fanciful elvish look! The base of the ATC is made with white card stock layered with scraps of white paper doily. I used a baby blue colored Tsukineko ink and a light touch with a finger dauber to give the background a nice wintery icy look.  The other paper I used is by Imaginisce and is called “Gingerbread Village.”  I fussy cut each one of those elves out of that paper and added dimension by using foam adhesive to pop them up. I also used the stripe area of the same paper for the large elf socks.  Using black cardstock I cut out the elf boots and covered them with Glossy Accents for some shine. I topped them with puffy Marvy Uchida Liquid Applique in white.  Warning: The heat it takes to puff up the Liquid Applique can make Glossy Accents and plastic based stickers curl and bubble so you may want to do the heating before applying those other materials.

The following is a video share of both projects:

CAS Card with “Friends Forever” – free digi https://www.craftypaws.us/cas-card-with-friends-forever-free-digi/ https://www.craftypaws.us/cas-card-with-friends-forever-free-digi/#comments Sat, 26 Jul 2014 15:22:55 +0000 http://www.craftypaws.us/?p=3162 Sorry for the late update of this post. Things have been a little nutty in our house with our packing, moving, traveling for work, caring for our ill pup (Biscuit), etc.

Anyway, just wanted to share this CAS card that I made using my latest free digi, “Friends Forever”.  I love the disproportionate little boy with the big dog–isn’t that cute?  I drew them simply, so they should be easy to paper piece and/or color.

I colored them up using Copic markers. Skin E00; Shirt: RV25 and RV29; Jeans: B93, 95 and 97; Hair: C1, 3, 5, 7, 9, and B00; Dog: E31 and 33; Cement ground: W1 and 3. I fussy cut them out, popped them up using foam adhesive, and used a sky patterned background paper.

The quote is one of my favorites:  “Love does not consist in gazing at each other, but in looking together in the same direction.”  I printed it out on my color printer using dark blue (to coordinate with the boy’s jeans and the sky).  Then I free hand fussy cut around it to form a cloud. After adhering it to the card, I used Liquid Applique in white to go around the cloud shape, zapped it with my heat tool, and like magic, it puffed up!

I thought this would be a very versatile, “any time” card.

The following is a video share of the card:
