I learned a really cool technique at the Scrapbook Expo on how to use a scrap of lace as a stencil to use with glitter to make gorgeous backgrounds that I wanted to try at home and share with you all.<\/p>\n

First I cut down some chip board to ATC size so that I could try this in a small format (after all, if it didn’t work, I didn’t want to waste a lot of supplies plus I’m not fond of the mess that comes with glitter). Then I covered one side of it completely with double sided adhesive tape. The brand I used is made by Bazic Products, but my guess is it would work with Scor-tape, redline tape, or any other strong double sided tape.<\/p>\n

Then I laid down a scrap of thin lace with a delicate detailed pattern, smoothing it down but not burnishing it too hard because I didn’t want this to be a permanent adhesion. Then I sprinkled on some Basic Black Silk Microfine Glitter by Elizabeth Craft Designs. \u00a0I’m not sure it matters, but the demonstrator I saw said to use the darker of the two glitters\u00a0first. Next, I dusted off the excess glitter and removed the lace “stencil” before sprinkling on the lighter Light Brass Silk Microfine Glitter by Elizabeth Craft Designs. The lighter glitter then adheres to the areas where the lace was removed. After again dusting off the excess glitter, a brilliant lacy textured background is revealed!\u00a0The last step is to finger burnish the glitter into the adhesive. Not only does this secure the extra fine glitter particles but it also brightens and intensifies the shine from the glitter!<\/p>\n

To decorate the ATC, I fussy cut out an image of a fancy lady with peacock feather wings from the Graphic 45 Curtain Call Collection and glued it down in the lower left of the ATC. \u00a0Lastly I used\u00a0some LeCreme flat back pearls as well as a\u00a0snippet of Black Swirls Rhinestones, both from Want2Scrap, to add some interest without detracting from the brilliance of the background.<\/p>\n
