I have been wanting to color up the freebie The Greeting Farm mermaid that I picked up for being a blog newsletter subscriber combine it with the adorable little mermaid from the Magical on a project. The styles (see the eyes) are a little different, but I actually like that because it makes them look like unique beings! Then I saw that a crafty friend, Kelly (YT: ScrappinMemories) was hosting her first YT challenge asking folks to make a card with a spring theme (e.g., ocean, beach, etc.), and I knew this was the perfect chance to get inky with these cuties.

Second Chance! If you missed The Greeting Farm’s Magical stamp set when it was first released, you have until May 5, 2016 to take advantage of their re-release pre-order SALE! Check it out HERE

"20160503_154044"Plus I wanted to get a little wild with hair colors (springtime gardens in so many bright colors were my inspiration) so I thought fantasy creatures like mermaids would be perfect for this Copic fun. I printed the freebie digi on my printer and stamped the other mermaid out with MFT Black Licorice Hybrid Ink then I used the following Copics:

Black and Pink Haired Mermaid: Skin: E50, 51, 53 and R20 for blush; Hair: C7, C9, B00, RV52, RV55, and RV66; Starfish: E93, E95, E02 and E30; Tail: BV20, RV52, RV34, RV55 and RV66

Green and Purple Haired Mermaid: Skin: E50, 51, 53 and R20 for blush; Hair: BG11, BG23, BG32, BG49, BV20, BV23, BV31, V15 and V17; Starfish and shell necklace: E93, E95, E02 and E30; Tail: E50, BV23, BV31, BG11, BG23 and BG49

I added Sakura Clear Star Gelly Roll glitter on the shell bikini top, shell necklace and all the starfish for extra sparkle and Clear Wink of Stella on the mermaid tails for extra shimmer.

For the ocean background, I used Ken Oliver Color Burst in Indigo on some wet water color paper. Then I made some homemade action wobbles (coiling thin jewelry making wire around a marker and attaching two card stock circles to each end of the DIY spring with scotch tape) and glued them to the backs of each of the mermaids that I fussy cut out. I attached these lovelies to the card front at angles so they looked like they could be floating around in the ocean. The action wobbles add a nice swinging motion–I love interactive cards! Then for finishing touches (and to add more magical sparkle to the background) I added some little dots with the Sakura Clear Star Gelly Roll pen and a handful of teal and iridescent sequins to the watery ocean.

The following is a quick video share of this card:
