<\/a>A crafty friend, Nae Nae (YT: Renea Villanueva) is hosting a challenge asking folks to make bookmarks for kids in her community who are participating in a summer reading program. Encouraging a young reader is something that I feel can help change a person’s life so I knew I was going to participate, and I wanted to try to make some special bookmarks.<\/p>\n

<\/a>I researched (ok, watched — LOL) a whole bunch of YT videos and decided to try making some origami bookmarks for the kids. I made heart corner bookmarks, heart bookmarks, bulldog bookmarks, and a cat bookmark (this last one kind of looks more like a pig or a large shrimp (?) to me — hahaha). I hope the kids who receive these bookmarks enjoy them. Who knows? Maybe one of them will decide to read a book about origami. I had so much fun, and I got to use up some very thin papers from my scrap box (bonus!).<\/p>\n

<\/a>Just a couple of origami tips: use thin paper and take your time with your folds to make them as exact and sharp as possible (a bone folder is super helpful). \u00a0Here are the links to the tutorials I followed for each type of bookmark. I hope you’ll give these a try, and encourage a young reader in your life.<\/p>\n
