Doggy Card | CraftyPaws https://www.craftypaws.us "PAWS" and enjoy the journey! Sun, 04 Mar 2018 15:00:53 +0000 en-US hourly 1 Crazy Cute Dogs! https://www.craftypaws.us/crazy-cute-dogs/ https://www.craftypaws.us/crazy-cute-dogs/#comments Thu, 15 Feb 2018 13:00:35 +0000 https://www.craftypaws.us/?p=10712 I had so much fun designing this card, chock full of crazy cute dogs from the IndigoBlu Duke’s Gang stamp set for my design team project for Topflight Stamps! I couldn’t let Valentine’s Day pass without honoring all of our adorable and much loved fur babies!

I stamped out each dog image 2-5 times, masking dogs in the front before stamping the dogs behind them all the way around my card front, which I cut down to 5 1/2″ x 3 7/8″. Because I didn’t want any dog to be next to any other dog that looked exactly the same, I ended up doodling to add extra fur, extend the lengths of the bodies, or adding spots to some of the dogs to keep the dogs looking different. I probably didn’t have to worry so much about maintaining the linear differences since I was Copic coloring them in a bunch of crazy colors, but it was fun to add the extra variety anyway.

I used the following Copic colors to make the rainbow dog pack:
Blue dogs: B12, B16 and B18
Purple dogs: V12, V15, V17 and V09
Yellow dogs: Y11 and Y15
Orange dogs: YR15, YR04 and YR07
Red dogs: R35, R37 and R39
Blue green dogs: BG11, BG13 and BG15
Violet dogs: RV02, RV04 and V04

I colored the background with pale blues: B000, B00, and B01. Then to add a little depth and make the dogs pop a bit more from the background, I used Prismacolor colored pencils in Electric Blue (PC1040) and Copenhagen Blue (PC906) to add some deeper blues to the nooks and crannies of the background. I also colored some of the dogs’ spots and ears with a Sakura Black Glaze Pen for some shine and subtle texture.

This left a perfect open space for a sentiment in the middle of the card front. But rather than make a single layer card, I thought it might be more interesting heat emboss a sentiment onto a vellum strip that I could wrap around the whole card front. Fortuitously, the “You are Pawesome” scripty sentiment from the Simon Says Stamp You Are Pawesome stamp set fit perfectly! I first prepped the vellum with the EK Success Powder Tool then I inked up the sentiment with VersaFine Black Onyx Ink. Then I used Recollections clear embossing powder to heat emboss and fix the sentiment in place on the vellum (ink tends to smear unless fixed like this).

I secured the vellum in place by securing it on the back of the card front with tape and then popped it up on a sheet of fun foam for some added dimension.  I found a strip of patterned paper in my scrap box that had “LOVE THIS” printed over and over and decided this would be a great way to accent the bottom of the card. To add a little shimmer, I also added a thin strip of silver glitter washi tape above this before adding the card front over top. For finishing touches and to hide where I tacked down the vellum a bit more, I added lots of sparkly silver sequins and tiny metal hearts.

The following is a process video of putting together the card (this does not include the stamping and coloring):

A House is Not a Home Without a Dog https://www.craftypaws.us/a-house-is-not-a-home-without-a-dog/ https://www.craftypaws.us/a-house-is-not-a-home-without-a-dog/#comments Wed, 18 Oct 2017 12:00:06 +0000 https://www.craftypaws.us/?p=10212 A dear crafty friend, Jude (YT: Hey Jude Cards) is celebrating her 1 year anniversary on YouTube with a week-long celebration (giveaways every day this week!). She and I share a passion not only for crafting but also for dogs, so the minute I met her I knew we would be friends. For part of her celebration, she has asked six of her friends (all the links are in the description box of my YouTube video) to participate in a YouTube hop with her. We could make anything so long as there was a dog theme. Each hop participant will be giving away a Dog/Cat Rescue Digi and on my hop stop, I will also be giving away the My Favorite Things Playful Pups Stamp Set (so please watch the video on YouTube and leave the answer to the question asked in the video in the comment section to be eligible).

The hardest part of this for me was trying to narrow down what doggy themed project I was I was going to create. After all, with a name like CraftyPaws, you can imagine how many doggy crafty goodies are in my stash. 🙂 I decided to do a process video sharing how to do a windowed card with the sentiment peeking out from inside as well as spotlighting adorable dog images from Katzelkraft’s Dogs Stamp Set by only coloring the pups in the scenes.

To first create the living room scene, I used the Joy Crafts “Home Sweet Home” stamp set (I love how these stamps have a sketchy drawn look similar to the Katzelkraft’s Dogs). I intentionally left the upper middle section empty to leave room for the sentiment window.

Then I used the 4th largest Simon Says Stamp Stitched Squares Die Set to die cut a window from the card front as well as a thin copy paper template. I then positioned the paper template on the inside right side of the card base and used my MISTI stamping tool to position the sentiment from Cloud 9 Design’s Dogs Sentiment Stamp Set that reads, “A HOUSE is not a Home without a DOG.” I then re-positioned the template the the outside card base front and die cut that window again. Provided I didn’t accidentally shift the die, the card front can now be positioned exactly over the card base front and the window opening should perfectly align so that the sentiment can be seen even from the front even before the card is opened.

Using Google images of Basset Hounds, Dalmatians, Huskies, and Dachshunds as references, I used the following Copic colors for these pups:
Basset Hound: W1, W7, W9, E23, E25, 100
Dalmatian: Collar, Tag and Tongue: B01, Y17, R24 and R27; Dalmatian: W7 and W9
Husky: Ears, Eyes and Tongue: R30, B01, R27 and R29; Husky: C1, C5 and C7
Dachshund: W5, W7, W9, E23, E25 and 100

I fussy cut all these pups out with Fiskars Spring Loaded Scissors and then inked the edges with a Momento Tuxedo Black Marker to hide the white edge of the cut card stock. Then it was a matter of positioning each pup into the scenes. I popped each of them up on double sided foam adhesive for a little dimension, but securely glued down their feet and some of their skinny tails with Art Glitter Glue (with a fine nozzle tip) so they could go through the post without fear of being damaged.

For two of the pups that were a little taller, I positioned the pups so they looked like they were popping into the scene from the foreground off the front edge of the card and cut off any overhanging parts. For the other two, I put them completely in the scenes and grounded them by adding shadows below them using a Copic C3 marker.

For 3 of the cards, I ended up adding an extra pup inside the card as well. This was primarily because I had underestimated the space needed for the die cut window in the living room scene and had had to cut the side of the over-hanging lamp. To make the card front scene look complete, I had to stamp the lamp inside the card as well. Then to make the lamp not look like an oddity, I added the extra pup as an accent to the interior of the card. I actually think these card interiors came out looking ok – sometimes mistakes create opportunities!

The following is a process video showing how to construct these cards, including a sampling of the Copic coloring as well (remember to leave the answer to the question posed in the video in the comment section of the video to be eligible for the prize):

Custom Puppy Love Card https://www.craftypaws.us/custom-puppy-love-card/ https://www.craftypaws.us/custom-puppy-love-card/#comments Tue, 14 Feb 2017 23:19:59 +0000 http://www.craftypaws.us/?p=9171 I love that as crafters we can totally customize cards and projects for our crafty love recipients. I have a crafty friend, Sheetal (IG: @kumar_sheetal), who has an adorable dog that I fell in love with the instant I saw her on Instagram. Coco is a Shih tzu and reminds me so much of a baby Chewbacca, I couldn’t get her out of my head.

I decided to make a card using a pup from the Avery Elle “Furry Friends” stamp set that I hoped I could Copic color to look like Coco. I used the following Copic colors:

Coco: W1, W3, E43, E31, E33, E35, E87, E47, and E59 (yes, I know that’s a lot of colors but depending on the picture I was looking at, Coco’s coloring seemed to change quite a bit). I also used a Sakura White Gelly Roll Pen to add some details and highlights.
Dog bed: R30, R32, and R22
For the background, I blended on Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Cracked Pistachio and Pine Needes and then splattered it with a bit of water to get a mottled look. I die cut the image with the sixth largest circle from the Diemond Dies Die-Normous Stack-Ems Circle Nesting Die Set and then I cut another circle with the 7th largest circle and colored it with Copic R22 to create a color coordinated circle matting.

For the background, I went to my favorite go-to crafting tool (my Big Shot) and die cut two rectangles from white card stock using the MFT Die-Namics Stitched Rectangles STAX Die Set. For the top rectangle, I used the tiny heart and small paw print dies from the Paper Smooches “Paw Print” Die Set to randomly cut out little openings. For the lower rectangle, I used Copic R30, 32 and 22 to create a variegated background color to show through the die cut paw prints and hearts openings. I adhered the two with lots of strips of double sided foam adhesive to add dimension. I then matted that with a scrap of peach colored Shimmerz paper and then adhered the whole ensemble to a pale mint card stock card base.

Multi-scene Card Celebrating Summer and Puppies! https://www.craftypaws.us/multi-scene-card-celebrating-summer-and-puppies/ https://www.craftypaws.us/multi-scene-card-celebrating-summer-and-puppies/#comments Wed, 03 Aug 2016 19:57:52 +0000 http://www.craftypaws.us/?p=8060 One of my crafty YT friends, Cathy (YT: Huckleberry Herbs and Art) asked crafty friends to make something that involved “a favorite thing.” For me, that meant something celebrating puppies! YAY!  I am not normally a scene card maker, but I have had this idea of multiple scenes on a card bopping around in my head for a long time sooo….

20160803_111955I created a card on which the front would be the interior of a home with a dog peering out of a window. I used the Art Impressions “Mini Front and Back Cat and Dog” stamp set for the back side of the pup on the card front. I also colored up an extra one of the fronts so I could create a black and white puppy portrait to “hang on the wall”. To make the scale right, I had to add a chair for the tiny pup to stand on to get a view out of the window, and I was lucky to find a chair image from the same Prima “Lady Bird” paper collection that I used for the tone on tone chevron “wallpaper.” I colored up the sketch of the chair with the following Tim Holtz Distress Markers: Vintage Photo, Tea Dye, Cracked Pistachio and Mowed Lawn and then fussy cut it out with scissors and an Xacto knife. I also fussy cut out the portrait frame from an older Recollections paper stack simply called Printed Scrapbook Papers. For the centerpiece window, I used the Diemond Dies Window Dies Set and again used my Xacto blade to cut through the entire card front.

For the reverse side of the card front, I created a scene of the outside of the home. I used the Tim Holtz stencil called Bricked and blended on Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Fired Brick and Tea Dye. I die cut out another 20160803_112051Diemond Dies Window Die and positioned it so that the puppy looked like he was peering out of the window. I also used the Diemond Dies Shutter Die and the Window Box Die to fill out the scene. I added lots of tiny paper flowers that I had in my stash, painting the burgundy ones with “Baby Pink” Plaid acrylic paint to soften the color. I used gold Ranger Liquid Pearls to add shiny centers to the flowers.

Finally, for the scene of puppies celebrating summer and partying in the dog park (and hopefully inviting and enticing the puppy inside to join them! LOL), I used an old cloud patterned paper from my stash. To make the grassy background, I used white card stock inked with Tim Holtz Mowed Lawn and Twisted Citron Distress Inks and die cut with a My Favorite Things “Grassy Hills” die set. For the sandy playground foreground, I inked up more white card stock with Tim Holtz Tea Dye and Antique Linen Distress Inks and die cut the back edge with the Lawn Fawn “Stitched Hillside” die set. Then for the playground equipment, the tree, and the spotted dog on the slide, I used the Lawn Fawn “Let’s Play” stamp set, fussy cutting each piece out (rather than using the coordinating dies that I actually have) because I didn’t want the white edge around each image. For the small bush and the upper left side of the tree, I also used the cloud from the 20160803_112153Lawn Fawn “Hello Baby” stamp set and just colored them up like greenery. The other dogs at play are all from the Clearly Besotted “Playful Pooches” stamp set. I love how all the pups seemed too coordinate so nicely even though they were from three different stamp companies!

The following are all the Copic colors I used:
AI Puppy: E13, 15, 97 and 99 (brown body) and C0 and 1 (white paws and face)
AI Puppy in Portrait: W3 and 5 with N4 for background
LF Puppy on Slide: N0, 2 and 4
Pug on Teeter Totter: N3, 5, 7 (dark face) and Y11, 13, 21 and 26 (fawn-colored body)
Spotted dog on Teeter Totter: E31, 35 and 39 (spots); N0, 1, 3, and 0 (white body); and R20 (tongue)
Frisbee dog: E70, 71, 74 and 79 (dog); R30, 20 and 32 with RV21, 23 and 25 (ears and frisbee)
Fluffy dog in center of playground: E51, 21, 97 and 99 with BG32 and 45 (collar)
Sniffing dog by tree: E51, 53 and 55 with R20 (tongue)
Tree tops and bush: YT13, 25 and 17

Finally the upper right side of this inside scene seemed a little empty so I created a rainbow using the Diemond Dies Die-Normous Stack-Ems Circle Nesting Die Set. I cut out several rings with 7 adjacent circle dies and tucked in one end of the rings behind the tree top.  The other side pf the rings just cleared the edge of the card so I simply cut off the overhang so it would look like the rainbow continued off the card.  To color up each of the rings, I used the following Copic colors: R24 and 29; YR04; Y19; YG07 and 07; B24 and 18; V17.  I repeated these same colors to color up the playground equipment because I thought the bright colors added to the cheerfulness of the card, and I wanted to repeat the same colors for a cohesive look on the card.

Using Tiny Doggy Stamps https://www.craftypaws.us/using-tiny-doggy-stamps/ https://www.craftypaws.us/using-tiny-doggy-stamps/#comments Tue, 19 Jul 2016 23:00:56 +0000 http://www.craftypaws.us/?p=7963 You know those tiny stamps in a stamp set that often go unnoticed or unused? Well, I took up the MFT Background Challenge and decided to gather some of my favorite dog-themed stamp sets and use only the tiny stamps to create a fun CAS card.

I used stamps from MFT “You Make My Tail Wag,” MFT “You Have My Heart,” Gerda Steiner Designs “Howl Are You?” and Lawn Fawn’s “Critters in the Dog Park.” I positioned them around on my MISTI (after all if I messed up a stamp I needed to be able to repeat the stamping) and used MFT Black Licorice Hybrid Ink.

20160719_181233Then I used the following Copic colors to color up the images:
Fire hydrant: R22, 05, 29
Purple bone: V12, 15, 17
Sausage: E04 and 07
Dog bowl: B12, 14, 18
Orange bone: YE00
Tennis ball: Y11 and 15
Green newspaper: YT03 and 09
Fetch stick: E84 and 87
Yes, there are a lot of colors (in fact, all the colors of the rainbow and more!); I wanted to make this card bright and cheerful. Plus I figured I could use any colors I wanted since the images could be dog squeeky or plush toys (rather than real bones for example).

Then to make the sentiment banner, I used VersaMark ink and Recollections Snow Pearl Embossing Powder on black card stock to stamp out and heat emboss “You’re Pawsitively Awesome.” I popped that up on double sided foam adhesive to add a little dimension and flanked it with two black enamel dots.

The card was still “missing something” so I decided to make a little striping for the bottom edge to give it a little visual weight. I used a black and white striped washi tape on white card stock and glued that to the edge. To create a clean edge, I also cut a thin trip of black card stock and glued that to the top edge of the washi strip.

Lastly, I added some doodled dots with a sparkly Sakura Clear Star Gelly Roll Pen around each of the stamped images. That seemed to finish the card off nicely!

“All the Single Ladies” Dancing Doggy Cards https://www.craftypaws.us/all-the-single-ladies-doggy-card/ https://www.craftypaws.us/all-the-single-ladies-doggy-card/#comments Mon, 11 Jul 2016 14:28:27 +0000 http://www.craftypaws.us/?p=7889 I saw a super cute piggy interpretation of Beyonce’s “All the Single Ladies” song and dance on Instagram by my friend @biiirka a little while back, and I’ve been wanting to do a doggy version using the Hero Arts “Party Time” mini stamp set designed by Lia Griffith, also available HERE in the UK.

20160711_080708

I made two CAS cards, one with the poodles for a crafty friend who is celebrating her dog, Sandy’s, birthday, and one with the rottweilers for a different crafty friend who recently got a new Rottie puppy. For the Rotties, I used the following Copic colors: E50, E51, E53, W3, W5, W7 with a hint of R20 for blush. For the poodles I made them all different colors. The one on the left is colored in E40, 70, 71 and 74; the center is: E31, 33, 35, and 37; and the right is: E50, 51, 21, 11 and 13. All the tongues are R32 and all the cheeks have a little blush with R20.

20160711_081216

I made little post-it note masks of each pup and did a bit of Tim Holtz Distress Ink Blending to give the sense of a floor and to add a little color. The Rotties are standing on Twisted Citron with a wall of Spun Sugar and Worn Lipstick while the poodles are on a floor of Spun Sugar blended to white.

For the banner titles, I just printed “All the single ladies…” from my computer one one of my favorite free font, Magnolia Sky, and popped them up on double sided foam adhesive. Other than that, I just added some well-placed sequins and doodled on some shimmery dots with a Clear Star Gelly Roll pen. Oh and the poodles card has the sentiment “Yappy Birthday!” from the Mama Elephant “Playful Pups” stamp set on the inside of the card.

The following is a video share of these cards:

Puppy Adoption Floating Shaker Card – MarkerPOP GDTP https://www.craftypaws.us/puppy-adoption-shaker-card-markerpop-gdtp/ https://www.craftypaws.us/puppy-adoption-shaker-card-markerpop-gdtp/#comments Sun, 27 Sep 2015 08:00:17 +0000 http://www.craftypaws.us/?p=6173 I made this card for a friend who recently almost bought a dog at a pet shop. I am happy and relieved to say that she didn’t and with this card that I am encouraging her to adopt from a shelter or rescue organization or get a dog from a reputable breeder.

I knew I wanted a large card to create a kind of “store front” look with a bright, welcoming awning and a large picture window.  To add an interactive element, I made the front window a floating shaker through which you could see a room full of puppies from the Mama Elephant “Playful Pups” stamp set. Oh my gosh, aren’t those puppies the cutest?

20150924_161107The following are the Copic colors I used for the puppies, tennis balls, and bones:
Dalmatian: W1, 8, 9; Bandana: BG11, 45
Rolling Golden Retriever: E21, 11, 13 and 41; Belly and muzzle: E41 and 41
Center Terrier-mix: E33, 35, 23, 37, 29; Muzzle: E41 and 51; Collar: B24, 29; Tag: Gold metallic Sakura Gellly Roll Pen
Weimaraner playing with ball: C1, 3, 4 and colorless blender; Collar: R22, 29
French Bulldog: E40 and 70; Ears and muzzle: R11; Collar: B01 ; Spikes: Gold metallic Sakura Gelly Roll Pen
Bear squeaky toy (drawn with a Copic 0.01 pt Multiliner pen and fussy cut to cover letter in stamp image): RV00, 02, 13 with belly covered in  Raspberry Fizz Flower Soft for fuzzy texture
Tennis balls: Y11, 13, 15
Bones: C1 coated with Glossy Accents for shine

I started with a large 8.5″ x 12″ piece of heavy kraft card stock for the base. To accommodate the dimension of the pups, I also added a 1/8″ gusset at the top fold. I then cut a window out of the front panel with an X-Acto knife 7 3/4″ by 3 1/4″.  I cut a second panel with the same dimensions so that I could insert the shaker pocket between these two panels to create a floating shaker on the front of the card without interfering with all the pups on the inside of the card. I created the shaker pocket using a scrapbook layout sleeve and a We R Memory Keepers Photo Sleeve Fuse Tool, filling it with tennis balls and bones that I stamped, colored and die cut from the Playful Pups set; pearlescent and gold sequins; and white seed beads (I find that adding something with a little dimension like beads helps all the shaker pieces move around better).

20150924_160857For the awning, I cut a piece of 2 3/4″ by 8.5″ piece of striped patterned paper and used the Martha Stewart Eyelet Lace Punch Around The Page Set to punch the end corners and along one edge of the paper. Then I scored the paper lengthwise at 3/8″ and 2 3/4″ to create the area to attach the awning at the top of the card and the drop overhang. To finish off the window, I just cut strips of white card stock to frame the opening and layered a couple of thinner strips at the top and bottom to add some visual weight to the window framing.

The puppy playroom inside was easy to create. I first cut a piece of pink wood grain patterned paper to 8.5″ x 4.5″. Then I found some pale blue puppy paw print paper that I thought would make the perfect flooring and cut that to 8.5″ x 3″. To create the look of a 3D room, I drew in vertical wall lines 1 1/4″ in from either side and 3″ down the card.  I connected the bottoms of those lines with a horizontal line to create the back floor. Finally, I cut away the floor paper at a diagonal from the bottom of the wall lines to 1 1/2″ above the bottom of the card on both sides.  If this is unclear, please watch the video where I point all of this out on the card so you can see what I’m describing.

Then it was just a matter of positioning all the adorable puppies that I had colored up and die cut using the matching Mama Elephant Creative Cuts die set. I popped all of them up on foam adhesive to add a little dimension and added a little extra fun with an extra muzzle layer for the French Bulldog which I fussy cut out and popped up with more foam adhesive and putting the whole Golden Retriever up on a home made action wobble (if you are interested in how to make an action wobble, see THIS VIDEO).

CAS Lawn Fawn Double Accordion Gatefold Card https://www.craftypaws.us/cas-lawn-fawn-double-accordion-gatefold-card/ https://www.craftypaws.us/cas-lawn-fawn-double-accordion-gatefold-card/#comments Mon, 06 Jul 2015 17:43:08 +0000 http://www.craftypaws.us/?p=5623 I wanted to create a CAS (Clean And Simple) doggy card that was inspired by a wonderful card that I saw May Park make last September. I used the Mama Elephant “In My Heart,” the Lawn Fawn “Critters in the Dog Park,” and the Lawn Fawn “I Love You S’more” stamp sets to make this sweet card for a friend who lives far away.  I used the marshmallow stamp from the I Love You S’more set to make tin can telephones (you know, the kind you used to rig up as a kid but that kids today just wouldn’t understand since everyone has cell phones now), and used the Dachshund and Boxer stamps as the two puppy friends talking to each other even though they are miles apart. 🙂  I stamped the sentiment from the Mama Elephant stamp set with VersaFine black ink and two red hearts with Memento Luxe Love Letter red ink that I heat embossed.

20150706_131743The video is a start to finish tutorial, so I won’t go through all the details here, but I will include the measurements for the card base and the Copic colors used.

Measurements:
Card base: 10 1/2″ x 5 5/8″
Pencil lines which are later scored at: 1 3/4″, 3 1/2″, 7″ + 8 3/4″

Copic colors:
Dachshund: E31 and 33
Boxer: E21, 23, and 29
Pink tin can phone: RV52 and 55
Blue tin can phone: B00 and B02

I also used Clear Wink of Stella on the tin can phones and Glossy Accents on the tin can phones and on the puppies’ noses to add more shimmer and shine.

The following is the card process video:

Doggy Congratulations Card https://www.craftypaws.us/doggy-congratulations-card/ https://www.craftypaws.us/doggy-congratulations-card/#comments Tue, 10 Jun 2014 15:21:23 +0000 http://www.craftypaws.us/?p=2548 Picture 337This is just a quick post to share a doggy themed congratulations card for a dog lover family friend who is graduating college this weekend (whew, whipped this out just in time). The style is clean and simple (CAS) and it is very much in the style of the Lawn Fawn hippo card I did a few days ago.

Picture 333For this card, I used an existing card base and matching envelope in pale swirly blue and just layered a top piece of white card stock that I stamped and punched.  I used a fabulous stamp set called “Puppy Love” from www.RaisinBoat.com and stamped out the little pup wagging his tail 3 times. I stamped one onto the white cardstock, and I stamped two out on white card stock scraps that I could then fussy cut.  I fussy cut the head from one so that I could layer that over the top of a little rolled up diploma (a sticker from Jolees Boutique, but you could easily make this with a little paper and string). I fussy cut the last one out completely to add to the envelope (I love things that match).

The punch I used is a Fiskars paw print punch. These hand held punches are great for quick impact, and this style of punch is really easy to use for those with arthritis (or kids).  I figured the 5 pads of a dog’s paw would go with the handwritten sentiment of “High 5s!”  LOL

This card is being entered into the Raisinboat Graduation Challenge and
the CAS Study 194 Challenge

The following is a video share of this card:

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day! WOOF
