Dog Card | CraftyPaws https://www.craftypaws.us "PAWS" and enjoy the journey! Wed, 05 Dec 2018 17:58:46 +0000 en-US hourly 1 What a Wonderful World This Would Be…. https://www.craftypaws.us/what-a-wonderful-world-this-would-be/ https://www.craftypaws.us/what-a-wonderful-world-this-would-be/#comments Wed, 05 Dec 2018 17:24:58 +0000 https://www.craftypaws.us/?p=11944 A dear crafty friend who is a fellow dog lover (Cathy aka on YT: Huckleberry Herbs and Art), is hosting a challenge asking folks to create anything they like related to the theme “Peace and Brotherly Love.” Recently, I saw this wonderful quote: “What a beautiful world it would be if people had hearts like dogs,” and I knew that would be the inspiration for my project.

I sketched out a peace symbol using some circle dies to help get the general framework and doodling an upside-down Y down the middle. Then using an old school Stamp-a-ma-jig, a Fiskars acrylic block, and Momento Tuxedo Black Ink, I stamped out the adorable puppies from the Mama Elephant “Little Dog Agenda” stamp set in the shape of that peace sign to create this single layer card.

I used the following Copic colors to bring all the pups to life and create the puppy peace symbol:
Black and grey dogs: W0, W1, W3, W5 and W7
Brown and tan dogs: E50, E51, E53, E55, E57 and E59
Rainbow of colors for accessories: R35, R37, YR04, YR07, Y11, Y21, Y19, G14, G17, B16, B18, C0
Blue dots to fill in peace sign: B000, B01 and B02
I also re-emphasized the puppy eyes and noses with a Sakura Black Glaze Pen

For the card liner, I printed the sentiment from my computer and simply stamped a couple of my favorite Little Dog Agenda puppies (the one offerings the bone and the heart) to flank the sentiment. To mat the card front, I used a beautiful shimmery dark blue card stock and then adhered the whole thing to a square kraft corrugated card base. I love how this non-traditional holiday card for dog lovers came out. 🙂

Love You to the Moon and Back https://www.craftypaws.us/love-you-to-the-moon-and-back/ https://www.craftypaws.us/love-you-to-the-moon-and-back/#comments Mon, 11 Jun 2018 14:15:10 +0000 https://www.craftypaws.us/?p=11257 My sister-in-law and her family just got their first dog! I am so happy for them, especially since the 2 boys have been wanting a dog for over 10 years! The new pup’s name is Luna, so I thought it would be fun to combine a few different stamp sets to create a personalized moon-themed welcome fur baby card.

The sky background was created by blending Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Inks in Squeezed Lemonade, Mermaid Lagoon and Blueprint Sketch. In order to achieve a yellow glow around the moon, I first stamped the moon on the card base and blended the inks around that circle. For a starry night look, I splattered some water with my fingers to bleach out the ink, and I also splattered on some watered-down white acrylic paint with a toothbrush to create a wealth of stars.

To create the moon, used the layering moon stamps from the Altenew “To the Moon and Back” stamp set. To give it visual depth, I stamped the base circle stamp with the Tsukineko Brilliance Moonlight White Pigment Ink and the Lawn Fawn Manatee Premium Dye Ink. For the next layer, I used Lawn Fawn Hippo and for the last layer, I used Lawn Fawn Storm Cloud Premium Dye Inks. After fussy cutting out the moon, for a bit of shine and subtle visual texture, I used VersaMark Ink with clear embossing powder and heat embossed the whole moon. I popped this up on fun foam for added dimension when I adhered it to the night sky background.

The foxes and rabbits looking up at the moon are from the Lawn Fawn “Upon a Star” stamp set. I know this odd pack of rabbits and foxes would never happen in reality but these adorable animals represent my sister-in-law’s family: the bunnies are the girls and the foxes represent the boys. I used the following Copic colors to give them all a warm moon-lit glow:
Moonlight: Y02
Foxes: YE12, E35 with W1 for tail
Rabbits: C2, C4 and C6

I used a Lawn Fawn Stitched Hillside Die to create a silhouetted foreground on which the family of foxes and rabbits could stand. But before I used foam dots to pop them on, I blended on some Squeezed Lemonade Tim Holtz Distress Oxide Ink to give the ground a bit of moonlight glow too. I also decided to heat emboss the sentiment, “LOVE YOU TO THE MOON AND BACK” from the Altenew “To the Moon and Back” stamp set on this black base with Ranger Super Fine White Embossing Powder.

For the back of the card, I used the My Favorite Things “New Best Friend” stamp set to heat emboss the puppy and the sentiment, “Congratulations on Your New FURBALL.” Then to give it a finished look, I doodled some dots and dashes around the edges. I decided to back the card with black card stock and heat emboss this with more Ranger Super Fine White Embossing Powder rather than create a traditional card that opens so that this could easily be framed in a shadow box frame  (which I’m sending in the new puppy care package that I’m sending with this card) without adding too much additional bulk.

Springtime Hello https://www.craftypaws.us/springtime-hello/ https://www.craftypaws.us/springtime-hello/#comments Thu, 12 Apr 2018 04:01:51 +0000 https://www.craftypaws.us/?p=10973 Hello spring! The weather here in Georgia has turned gorgeous, and I’ve got spring fever! Although my sweet 17+ years old Biscuit is too frail to go for walks, before the sweltering heat of the Hotlanta summer comes, I am taking full advantage of the perfect weather and taking long daily walks with our super cute Bandito (who is just shy of 6 years old).

To commemorate this moment in time, I created a card featuring Bandito popping out from behind a door, ready to jump out and go for a stroll. I created the card front using the IndigoBlu “Country House” Stamp and cut open the right side of the double doors with an X-Acto blade to create an opening for the happy-go-lucky pup from JessicaOriginals Shih Tzu Stamp Set.

I used the following Arteza Fineliner 0.4 pt Ink Pens softened with Arteza water brush to color up both the country house doorway and the pup (note, as the pens do not have names or numbers, I am providing descriptions I made up for the colors from the 72 pen set and you can get a better sense of the actual markers used in the video where I show the colored pen lids as I color):
Havanese pup: light gray, medium brown, tan with red and burgundy for the tongue
Door: burgundy, medium brown and tan
Glass in lamps and transom: light blue gray
Stone walls: dark gray, medium gray
Ivy: dark forest green, green and light green
Topiaries: medium green, citrus green, and lemon green
Boot scrapper and lamps: gold and yellow
COUPON: If you want to purchase any products at the Arteza Shop, you can get 10% off by using the coupon code: BOE-TOZ-460

I fussy cut the pup (shortening the ears to look more like my Bandito) and inked the edges with a Momento Tuxedo Black Marker and secured it with tape at the base and right behind the doorway. I popped the pup’s head up on double sided foam dots in front of the left door to create a little dimension and give the sense of the puppy actually coming out from the house. To reinforce the feeling of spring and add some unexpected texture, I also glued on a bunch of small resin nail art flowers to the two topiaries flanking the doorway. I also added Glossy Accents to the glass window above the door, the glass of the lamps, and the puppy’s eyes and nose for some shine.

For the sentiment, I used the Neat & Tangled “Out of the Box” Stamp Set. Above the door, I curved the sentiment, “Just popping up to say…” using the MISTI tool to echo the curve of the lunette above the double doors. Below the scene, I stamped the bold “Hello!” Lastly I mounted the card front on a black card base (I thought the black would add a crispness to the card) with fun foam to give the card a bit more dimension. I cut out the area of the open door from the fun foam before gluing it onto the back of the card front, and before gluing that mounted card front to the card base, I added a scrap of pink vellum to the area of the card base that would show through the open doorway to add just a hint of color without distracting from the already very busy scene.

Masculine Birthday Card for a Dog Lover https://www.craftypaws.us/masculine-birthday-card-for-a-dog-lover/ https://www.craftypaws.us/masculine-birthday-card-for-a-dog-lover/#comments Wed, 12 Jul 2017 20:12:49 +0000 http://www.craftypaws.us/?p=9818 My nephew is a summer baby (well, maybe not a baby — he’s turning 25 this week), and I wanted to make him a whimsical card with a line of dogs conga dancing, as he’s an avid dog lover (like his aunt). I made this monochromatic card by layering several patterned papers that I die cut out, and I stamped and fussy cut out puppies that were simply heat embossed, rather than Copic colored (my normal go-to).

The plaid papers I used came from an old DCWV paper collection called “The Alphabet Stack,” and I cut around the actual alphas on the papers so that the patterns could really shine (one of them is actually glittered). I used the smallest of the My Favorite Things Die-Namics Stitched Scallop Edges die set to cut out the background plaid layer, and I used the second largest of the My Favorite Things Die-Namics Stitched Rectangles STAX die set to cut out the background softer plaid pattern behind the pups. I also used the stitched rectangles die set to create a white card stock frame to set off the inner softer plaid background from the bolder dark plaid background as well as to frame the focal point dancing puppies.

For those puppies, I used Momento Luxe Tuxedo Black ink to stamp out the three smallest pups from the Penny Black “Man’s Best Friend” stamp set and used Recollections Clear Embossing Powder to give them a bit of shine and a slightly raised finish. I hand fussy cut all of them out with a tiny white border all around them. I also used Momento Luxe in Love Letter Red ink to stamp out a tiny butterfly from the same stamp set and used more clear embossing powder to give it a matching shine and finish. I thought it would be funny to add that last pup looking in the wrong direction, distracted by the butterfly (our dogs are often so easily distracted I knew my nephew would get a kick out of this). I popped all of these critters up on foam dots to add to the dimension and interest on the card.

I also heat embossed the sentiment on the card front that reads, “HOT Diggety DAWG,” which is from the CAS-ual Fridays Stamp Set called “Exclamations.” The inside liner sheet is made from left-over scraps of the patterned plaid papers, an extra dancing pup, and a birthday sentiment from the My Favorite Things “Lucky Dog” stamp set, which reads, “WOOFING YOU A HAPPY BIRTHDAY.”

Using Tiny Doggy Stamps https://www.craftypaws.us/using-tiny-doggy-stamps/ https://www.craftypaws.us/using-tiny-doggy-stamps/#comments Tue, 19 Jul 2016 23:00:56 +0000 http://www.craftypaws.us/?p=7963 You know those tiny stamps in a stamp set that often go unnoticed or unused? Well, I took up the MFT Background Challenge and decided to gather some of my favorite dog-themed stamp sets and use only the tiny stamps to create a fun CAS card.

I used stamps from MFT “You Make My Tail Wag,” MFT “You Have My Heart,” Gerda Steiner Designs “Howl Are You?” and Lawn Fawn’s “Critters in the Dog Park.” I positioned them around on my MISTI (after all if I messed up a stamp I needed to be able to repeat the stamping) and used MFT Black Licorice Hybrid Ink.

20160719_181233Then I used the following Copic colors to color up the images:
Fire hydrant: R22, 05, 29
Purple bone: V12, 15, 17
Sausage: E04 and 07
Dog bowl: B12, 14, 18
Orange bone: YE00
Tennis ball: Y11 and 15
Green newspaper: YT03 and 09
Fetch stick: E84 and 87
Yes, there are a lot of colors (in fact, all the colors of the rainbow and more!); I wanted to make this card bright and cheerful. Plus I figured I could use any colors I wanted since the images could be dog squeeky or plush toys (rather than real bones for example).

Then to make the sentiment banner, I used VersaMark ink and Recollections Snow Pearl Embossing Powder on black card stock to stamp out and heat emboss “You’re Pawsitively Awesome.” I popped that up on double sided foam adhesive to add a little dimension and flanked it with two black enamel dots.

The card was still “missing something” so I decided to make a little striping for the bottom edge to give it a little visual weight. I used a black and white striped washi tape on white card stock and glued that to the edge. To create a clean edge, I also cut a thin trip of black card stock and glued that to the top edge of the washi strip.

Lastly, I added some doodled dots with a sparkly Sakura Clear Star Gelly Roll Pen around each of the stamped images. That seemed to finish the card off nicely!

“All the Single Ladies” Dancing Doggy Cards https://www.craftypaws.us/all-the-single-ladies-doggy-card/ https://www.craftypaws.us/all-the-single-ladies-doggy-card/#comments Mon, 11 Jul 2016 14:28:27 +0000 http://www.craftypaws.us/?p=7889 I saw a super cute piggy interpretation of Beyonce’s “All the Single Ladies” song and dance on Instagram by my friend @biiirka a little while back, and I’ve been wanting to do a doggy version using the Hero Arts “Party Time” mini stamp set designed by Lia Griffith, also available HERE in the UK.

20160711_080708

I made two CAS cards, one with the poodles for a crafty friend who is celebrating her dog, Sandy’s, birthday, and one with the rottweilers for a different crafty friend who recently got a new Rottie puppy. For the Rotties, I used the following Copic colors: E50, E51, E53, W3, W5, W7 with a hint of R20 for blush. For the poodles I made them all different colors. The one on the left is colored in E40, 70, 71 and 74; the center is: E31, 33, 35, and 37; and the right is: E50, 51, 21, 11 and 13. All the tongues are R32 and all the cheeks have a little blush with R20.

20160711_081216

I made little post-it note masks of each pup and did a bit of Tim Holtz Distress Ink Blending to give the sense of a floor and to add a little color. The Rotties are standing on Twisted Citron with a wall of Spun Sugar and Worn Lipstick while the poodles are on a floor of Spun Sugar blended to white.

For the banner titles, I just printed “All the single ladies…” from my computer one one of my favorite free font, Magnolia Sky, and popped them up on double sided foam adhesive. Other than that, I just added some well-placed sequins and doodled on some shimmery dots with a Clear Star Gelly Roll pen. Oh and the poodles card has the sentiment “Yappy Birthday!” from the Mama Elephant “Playful Pups” stamp set on the inside of the card.

Puppy Adoption Floating Shaker Card – MarkerPOP GDTP https://www.craftypaws.us/puppy-adoption-shaker-card-markerpop-gdtp/ https://www.craftypaws.us/puppy-adoption-shaker-card-markerpop-gdtp/#comments Sun, 27 Sep 2015 08:00:17 +0000 http://www.craftypaws.us/?p=6173 I made this card for a friend who recently almost bought a dog at a pet shop. I am happy and relieved to say that she didn’t and with this card that I am encouraging her to adopt from a shelter or rescue organization or get a dog from a reputable breeder.

I knew I wanted a large card to create a kind of “store front” look with a bright, welcoming awning and a large picture window.  To add an interactive element, I made the front window a floating shaker through which you could see a room full of puppies from the Mama Elephant “Playful Pups” stamp set. Oh my gosh, aren’t those puppies the cutest?

20150924_161107The following are the Copic colors I used for the puppies, tennis balls, and bones:
Dalmatian: W1, 8, 9; Bandana: BG11, 45
Rolling Golden Retriever: E21, 11, 13 and 41; Belly and muzzle: E41 and 41
Center Terrier-mix: E33, 35, 23, 37, 29; Muzzle: E41 and 51; Collar: B24, 29; Tag: Gold metallic Sakura Gellly Roll Pen
Weimaraner playing with ball: C1, 3, 4 and colorless blender; Collar: R22, 29
French Bulldog: E40 and 70; Ears and muzzle: R11; Collar: B01 ; Spikes: Gold metallic Sakura Gelly Roll Pen
Bear squeaky toy (drawn with a Copic 0.01 pt Multiliner pen and fussy cut to cover letter in stamp image): RV00, 02, 13 with belly covered in  Raspberry Fizz Flower Soft for fuzzy texture
Tennis balls: Y11, 13, 15
Bones: C1 coated with Glossy Accents for shine

I started with a large 8.5″ x 12″ piece of heavy kraft card stock for the base. To accommodate the dimension of the pups, I also added a 1/8″ gusset at the top fold. I then cut a window out of the front panel with an X-Acto knife 7 3/4″ by 3 1/4″.  I cut a second panel with the same dimensions so that I could insert the shaker pocket between these two panels to create a floating shaker on the front of the card without interfering with all the pups on the inside of the card. I created the shaker pocket using a scrapbook layout sleeve and a We R Memory Keepers Photo Sleeve Fuse Tool, filling it with tennis balls and bones that I stamped, colored and die cut from the Playful Pups set; pearlescent and gold sequins; and white seed beads (I find that adding something with a little dimension like beads helps all the shaker pieces move around better).

20150924_160857For the awning, I cut a piece of 2 3/4″ by 8.5″ piece of striped patterned paper and used the Martha Stewart Eyelet Lace Punch Around The Page Set to punch the end corners and along one edge of the paper. Then I scored the paper lengthwise at 3/8″ and 2 3/4″ to create the area to attach the awning at the top of the card and the drop overhang. To finish off the window, I just cut strips of white card stock to frame the opening and layered a couple of thinner strips at the top and bottom to add some visual weight to the window framing.

The puppy playroom inside was easy to create. I first cut a piece of pink wood grain patterned paper to 8.5″ x 4.5″. Then I found some pale blue puppy paw print paper that I thought would make the perfect flooring and cut that to 8.5″ x 3″. To create the look of a 3D room, I drew in vertical wall lines 1 1/4″ in from either side and 3″ down the card.  I connected the bottoms of those lines with a horizontal line to create the back floor. Finally, I cut away the floor paper at a diagonal from the bottom of the wall lines to 1 1/2″ above the bottom of the card on both sides.  If this is unclear, please watch the video where I point all of this out on the card so you can see what I’m describing.

Then it was just a matter of positioning all the adorable puppies that I had colored up and die cut using the matching Mama Elephant Creative Cuts die set. I popped all of them up on foam adhesive to add a little dimension and added a little extra fun with an extra muzzle layer for the French Bulldog which I fussy cut out and popped up with more foam adhesive and putting the whole Golden Retriever up on a home made action wobble (if you are interested in how to make an action wobble, see THIS VIDEO).

Lawn Fawn World Dog Day Shaker Card https://www.craftypaws.us/lawn-fawn-world-dog-day-shaker-card/ https://www.craftypaws.us/lawn-fawn-world-dog-day-shaker-card/#comments Fri, 31 Jul 2015 21:00:12 +0000 http://www.craftypaws.us/?p=5807 I can’t get enough of the adorable pups in the Lawn Fawn “Critters at the Dog Park” stamp set. They are all so cute! I made this card using the boxer in the playful stance, making him look like he is jumping around playing in the sand at the beach.

close upI used a gold paper from an DCWV Shimmer Stack for the sand because it had a wonderful subtle shimmer that was reminiscent of sparkly sand at the beach. I tore a little v-shaped area out to create a window (cased from a card made by Jenn Shurkus) where I could put a shaker pocket that I made with a bit of plastic from a sheet protector and my fuse tool.  Inside the shaker pocket, I added pearlescent seed beads, chunky gold glitter, and tiny sea shells from an old broken necklace (I love upcycling things like this).

I wanted the scene to have a vibrant background, so I created a rainbow colored sunset using the following Tim Holtz Distress Inks with blending tools: Mustard Seed, Spiced Marmalade, Tumbled Glass, Broken China, Seedless Preserves, and Picked Raspberry. I love the deep, rich colors, and who doesn’t like a rainbow? For the ocean, I just used a scrap of dark blue card stock from my scrap box and used my White and Clear Star Sakura Gelly Roll Pens to create a shimmery sparkle, the way the ocean might look at sunset.

I colored in the boxer pup stamp with the following Copic colors: E50, E53, E55, E79, W1 and N10.  I fussy cut him out and then used some strategically placed foam adhesive to pop his head and body off the card base. I used Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue to adhere his feet directly to the “sandy” beach. I think the two levels on the pup helps highlight his playful stance.

20150730_085722For a bit of fun (and to fulfill the challenge that my crafty friend Ashley (YT: Sparkly CanadianCraftyGirl) and I had set for ourselves to use ribbon and enamel dots in this Lawn Fawn collaboration project), I pulled an airplane wood veneer piece from my stash, colored it with a black Sharpie, and prepped a snippet of an “I {heart} My Pet” ribbon to look like one of those banners that you might see an advertising airplane towing at the beach in the summertime. 🙂

Lastly to finish off the inside, I just lined a black card base (I think vibrant cards like this look great and pop off of black card bases) with some dark blue and pale blue card stock. Then I did a second generation stamping of the boxer pup in the corner with VersaFine ink to add some fun.

The following is a process video of creating this card:

I used the Mama Elephant “In My Heart,” the Lawn Fawn “Critters in the Dog Park,” and the Lawn Fawn “I Love You S’more” stamp sets to make this sweet card for a friend who lives far away.  I used the marshmallow stamp from the I Love You S’more set to make tin can telephones (you know, the kind you used to rig up as a kid but that kids today just wouldn’t understand since everyone has cell phones now), and used the Dachshund and Boxer stamps as the two puppy friends talking to each other even though they are miles apart. 🙂  I stamped the sentiment from the Mama Elephant stamp set with VersaFine black ink and two red hearts with Memento Luxe Love Letter red ink that I heat embossed.

20150706_131743The video is a start to finish tutorial, so I won’t go through all the details here, but I will include the measurements for the card base and the Copic colors used.

Measurements:
Card base: 10 1/2″ x 5 5/8″
Pencil lines which are later scored at: 1 3/4″, 3 1/2″, 7″ + 8 3/4″

Copic colors:
Dachshund: E31 and 33
Boxer: E21, 23, and 29
Pink tin can phone: RV52 and 55
Blue tin can phone: B00 and B02

I also used Clear Wink of Stella on the tin can phones and Glossy Accents on the tin can phones and on the puppies’ noses to add more shimmer and shine.

The following is the card process video:

The CraftyPaws Bunch Card and Vintage Card https://www.craftypaws.us/the-craftypaws-bunch-card-and-vintage-card/ https://www.craftypaws.us/the-craftypaws-bunch-card-and-vintage-card/#comments Thu, 07 Aug 2014 00:49:56 +0000 http://www.craftypaws.us/?p=3217 Picture 487This will be a quick post. I just wanted to share a 4×6 PL style card that I made for my crafty friend JamiLola (YT: Poetspice). She is collecting these from her crafty friends and asked them to make something in their own style to represent them.

Well, I love tv (esp from the 70s and 80s), and I love dogs so I thought, why not put the two together to create a Brady Bunch-esque card with lots of cartoon dogs!

Picture 488I used dog stamps from the following stamp collections: Penny Black, “Mimi in Paris;” My Cute Stamps; Raisinboat Stamps, “Puppy Love;” and The Paper Company Studio, “Paws and Claws”. I created a grid with strips of cardstock and downloaded a free Brady Bunch font to make the center title. Easy breazy and oh, so much fun!

The other card I made was for JamiLola’s aunt, who likes vintage and traveling. I started with a ready made card base, and then went to town on the embellishments. I used lace, pearl trim, pearl buttons, a metal and epoxy love sticker with a bling dangle, and a gorgeous Victorian lady image that I lightly colored by dabbing it with Tim Holtz Distress inks.

The following is a video sharing a vintage birthday card I also made for JamiLola’s aunt and this CraftyPaws Bunch card:

The CraftyPaws Bunch card is also being entered into the Naughty or Nice Challenge Anything Goes Challenge

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day! WOOF
