Always Be Yourself…. | CraftyPaws

Always be yourself. Unless you can be a unicorn, then…always be a unicorn. 🙂

I love this silly quote, and I thought it would make a perfect card for one of my nieces, who is a sophomore in college and going through lots of trials and tribulations figuring out who she is and who she wants to be.

I colored up the adorable unicorn from The Greeting Farm “Magical Day” stamp set (because unicorns are great for young and old alike, right?) with the following Copic colors and Stabilo Uni-ball White Gel Pen (for dot details):
W0, W1 and W3 (body); Y26, Y28, E57 (hooves); RV10 (blush); Y26 with Clear Wink of Stella for shimmer; and V12, V06 and V09 (mane and ponytail)
Then I fussy cut her out and inked the edges with a Momento Tuxedo Black Marker (to hide the white edges of the paper).

I started with a purple card stock card base (which I inked the edges of with Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Wilted Violet) and layered on a white card front that I die cut using the WPlus9 “Sunshine Layers” scalloped stitched rectangle die. To add some springy softness, I wrapped the card front with some lavender floral lace at a diagonal and secured that on the back side of the card front with tape before adhering it to the card base.

For the next layer, I next took a mandala floral embossed card stock from Craft Smith’s “Uplifted” paper collection and die cut a stitched rectangle from the Pretty Pink Posh Stitched Duo 2 Die Set. I lightly blended on some Distress Ink in Wilted Violet and Milled Lavender, which I think highlighted the embossed flower beautifully. This layer I popped up with fun foam to add some extra dimension before adhering it to the card front and centering the unicorn front and center on top.

To add a little embellishing touch without making the card too fussy, I used Glossy Accents to adhere five purple, lavender and iridescent sequins. I dabbed the centers of each with Silver Moondust Nuvo Glitter Drops to cover the holes and add that finished look.

The inside of the card is simple. I printed out the sentiment that I found online whimsically written out and inked the edges of this liner sheet with Distress Ink in Seedless Preserves. I used my ATG gun to secure the liner into place, and voila! A cute, and hopefully inspiring, card for my niece is done!
